So, TF2 players, what are your thoughts on this update? Sounds like the initial reception is split about 50/50 between horrible and awesome.

Personally, I have no problem letting players who want new items, but don’t have time to play for hours to find or craft them, be able to purchase them. It comes at the cost of being able to trade or craft them, but then such a player probably wouldn’t want to do that anyway. It’s doesn’t break the game, since you can still find the items with gameplay attributes, or craft them from just 2 existing items. And Valve has already provided tremendous FREE support for a 3-year old game and continues to do so, so I can’t understand why so many people are all “omg Valve is teh suck and they’ve lost my respect”. That’s just disgustingly ungrateful, and shows a bratty entitled attitude. They owe us nothing. Besides, if you can’t respect Valve just because they allowed completely optional microtransactions in 1 game, who the hell can you respect? Also, item trading is a huge plus, but most of the new items seem a little underwhelming at first glance.

That’s my 2 cents, what do you think of it? Also, if you discover any recipes for new items or find out anything about any of the new Valve items/hats/mystery boxes, go ahead and post it here too.

wait you must pay for weapons now?

Really I don’t understand what people have against this?

It’s a welcome update; the trading system has been needed since the launch of the backpack, and microtransactions to buy your favorite hat or item are awesome; no more need to deal with class tokens and crafting crappy hats that nobody wants to wear.

However, I’m a bit frustrated with it, moreso becuase of the item sets being for sale than with the system itself. Allowing players to buy the sets and acquire the set bonus, instantly, immediately disadvantages players who want to wait to get the drops (we all know how long it takes to find random hats) - it was moderately annoying getting destroyed by opponents with new equipment right after an update previously, but at least with the class updates you could unlock them through achievements, so everyone had a chance. If you don’t want to pay for your weapons but want one of the item sets, who knows how long you’ll have to wait.

It’s great for Valve either way, of course. Especially for players who want to wait for drops; I guarantee people are going to find 3/4 items in a set and get so impatient waiting for the last one, especially if it’s a hat, that they’ll just buy it.

I think this update and the Steam Wallet count as the first of one of Valve’s 3 big surprises. They have yet to really go into the Steam Wallet. I assume that other games are going to take advantage of it at somepoint and it will be interesting to see how everything develops.

I don’t mind since you can still find weapons the old way, if it was buy only I’d be very annoyed. The trading system seems a good idea too.

The only thing that I don’t like is the sniper combo which makes you immune to headshots.

My experience of this update:

Me: "YES! POLYCOUNT UPDATE!

Now i can use the refined metals and scout token i’ve been saving for ages to get one of the new hats!"

TF2: “Congratulations, You’ve crafted:”

It’s pretty cool in my opinion.

PM me if you want to trade items.

You can still find them. They added it because many wanted it.

Spy and Sniper weapons look interesting. Especially the Jarate-tranq rifle and the insta disguise backstab knife. Maybe I can finally be a competent spy player.

I installed TF2 just now, rebooted my comp, and it DOESN’T WORK. WHAT THE HELL. I press “play” in steam, and it takes 5 seconds for the window to disappear, says i’m in game, then I go back to online status. I was looking forward to trading with my friend, too. :frowning:

I haven’t even played the engie update. I just can’t get into TF2 anymore, I guess It’s run its course for me. :\

I am curious about that HL2  M update. Not that I ever play it, but I wonder how much was changed.

To me buying the weapons and craftable stuff in TF2 is like buying levels in MMORPGs.

$17 for a hat… for some fucking polygons… no thank you.

I haven’t looked at the Mann Co. store yet, but the hats cost $17? That’s bull. No way am I paying for that crap.

$50 for all the Polycount items??? hahahhahahah no.

Of course, this means that once I can actually afford to buy/have good enough internet to download and play TF2, I’ll get slaughtered extra, because not only will a lot of people have the update weapons, a lot of them will have bought them and have been using them for at least a year.

I’m not against it, other than that.

OMG! Who’s Nico Robin? I love her!! :rabies:
