TF2 Going F2P?

https://www.develop-online.net/news/38103/Team-Fortress-2-becomes-free-forever

Yep. Lots of people gonna’ be up in dis bitch. I don’t see proof on that news site, but eh.

Well that would be kind of lame but okay

I don’t think so.

Horrible Idea. Remember when HL2: DM became free? Every hacker in the world started using haxs on it because if they got banned, it didn’t really matter, they could just make a new account.

Now TF2 will be the same way :frowning: sad day indeed

I can see some positives in this. But overall as someone who bought the game I mostly see negatives.

As of end of TF2 Meet the Medic, TF2 is now officially free.

One of the best Meet The videos to date

As I said, horrible idea.

Now, not only do I feel scammed. But I also feel betrayed. How could Valve forsake all of its paying customers!?!?!

Don’t feel bad, you get a hat.

I bet you complained when portal went free too.

Accept your early access and stfu.

this is fucking bullshit, if i had just waited two and a half years i could’ve gotten this shitty game for free

It’s a plenty acceptable complaint. When you purchase an item it has a value equivalent to the currency it is sold for. It was sold for 20$ now it is 0$ effectively making the purchase worthless.

Not only this but all of the things that come with f2p now are coming to tf2. Such as hackers, constant griefing and lots of little kids. And VAC is not that good a system for anti-cheat. And don’t even try to tell me that a team of 10 guys which current do on going dev for tf2 can keep up anti-hacking measures AND keep delivering content.

I can understand upset about hackers and children. Perhaps it is because I have been recently playing an MMO, but I personally cannot see how playing a game for two + years for what was it, $25? is being betrayed.

I’m worried about the hackers, but as for the devaluing, I wouldn’t complain too much. Games always devalue. Especially with Valve. When you buy a game right after release you should know you’re paying extra money to get the game sooner. It really doesn’t make that huge a difference if your game devalues 15 dollars or 20 dollars.

And this is a game that’s been out for 4 years and makes hundreds of thousands of dollars a week on virtual items alone.

As far as screwing the customers, yeah, they did a good job, but from a business standpoint, this is smart. some people seem to forget valve is still a business, and from that standpoint, there is nothing wrong with what they did. They game is now supported entirely by a optional system in which you buy items, Mann-co. Sure, it screwed me, as well as many others over who actually bought the game, but i don’t care because i stopped playing over a year ago.

i dont understand… why make it free?

I was like, WTF when I went to the site.
Then I remembered that I’ve bought the Orange Box about the time it was released and have already played the shit out of TF2.
And I was like

Hehe, enjoy your worthless free hats, fuckers

Am I the only one who doesn’t give a fuck because TF2 is boring as shit to me?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
