Hey dudes…
My TF2 laggs when e.g. a pyro burns me or when much effects like explosions are on one place…
you guys know some console commands to improve the games performance?
And I don’t mean “Set launch options -dxlevel 80”… with <-- this settings TF2 loos like s**t… I just want to lower some of the effects…
It sounds like your graphics card is struggling to render all those particle effects at once.
What card do you have? In fact, post all of your system specs. Always remember, if you don’t meet the recommended/maximum requirements for a game, you can’t expect to be able to run it in full settings.
In any case, if you want a new card you can get a GeForce 8600 GT for about $100 these days and it can run all source games at full settings with no problems.
G.Card: GeForce 9600 GT
WinXP SP3
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+
2.11 GHz
1 GB RAM
But I just want to know some commands I can type in the console to improve my performance a bit… because, in dxlevel 80 mode, everything works fine, but e.g. in arena_sawmill some models don’t be displayed and I just see the shadows
The graphics card is fine. You want more RAM, but I don’t think that’s whats holding you back. Try overclocking your processor, TF2 (like all source games) is pretty CPU intensive.
Try to see if you installed the card wrong (and I mean hardware wise). I had a similar problem where one of the vents was covered which caused overheating which caused extreme slow down of FPS when it tried to render almost anything.
and source doesn’t use 2 cpu cores -_-
You pretty much have to dump amd if that’s a socket 939, and buy a core 2 duo, best bang for the buck at the moment. But if that’s a socket AM2 or AM2+ then you can just upgrade your CPU.
The latest one does and Kerncore, something obviously is wrong with your computer as your computer is better than mine but I can still play the latest Valve games with no problem.
But TF2 isn’t “the latest one.”
my CPU usage says something else.
CPU0: 100%
CPU1: 7%
Amd athlon 64 is one of the first ever dual core processors, it performs 4 times slower than a 1.8ghz core 2 duo, don’t judge by the ghz.
o rly?
my 2.6GHZ X2 renders alot faster than a 2GHZ C2D
ITT: sersoft generalises to the point of extreme misleadingness.
Thats not the problem, I have a 1.9Ghz, and TF2 plays fine on highest settings. I think this is most likely a software problem with the game, or maybe your drivers. Try updating the drivers. And if your really stuck, try reinstalling TF2.
but the ram could be really the problem.
TF2 uses ~2GB ram on my pc
I meant in cases like this when a program only uses one core, you’re the ones who are misleading.
I meant this.
It’s so wrong, it’s almost funny. But not quite.
Will you let go of that post already? I clarified what I meant, and it’s true, what more do you want?
So you think that, core for core, a Core 2 Duo is four times faster than any Athlon64 X2? I would love to see you prove that.
Also, the Athlon64 X2 was not one of the first ever dual core processors. I think you’ll find that companies like Sun can lay claim to that, not x86 manufacturers like Intel or AMD.
Most likely, it’s a software issue. I have 2 gigs of ram and can run Left4Dead, without a single slowdown, back when I was using a E2180! TF2 is very cpu intensive, but didn’t it receive a multicore patch, that doubled the framerates? I know Day of Defeat Source got one, TF2 got one and Counter Strike Source was again out of luck!
It’s defiantly a software issue! Maybe apply the dual core fix, that AMD made, if you don’t have it.
