Honestly I wouldn’t expect a closing for the series for awhile. By then the dream of all of Tamriel being built in detail might not be so far fetched.
It would be largely randomly generated though. Although maybe they could come up with some way to make that interesting, maybe in 2000 years when AI can make it all just like a human can. Until then, no good full Tamriel I suspect.
Oblivion was mostly computer generated. It just had some over passing by people. The better algorithms that they can come up with for generating the terrain the better it could be.
That was really one of the things I got into it so much more when I downloaded a pack in which someone replace the default terrain and made it far more interesting. Something about the human touch just makes everything more explorable.
I’m surprised nobody had mentioned if Cliff Racers would be coming back :fffuuu:
in general i was quite disappointed with Oblivion story was dull, no surprises, i think i had more fun playing the modded quests and stories than i did the main content or any of the DLC, though shivering isles wasn’t bad i jsut had issues with the voice actor for sheogorath (sp?)… he sounded like he was trying too hard and it just seemed off…
Morrowind was amazing, i have to give it more credit than any other game for getting me into PC gaming. story was good, and some of the most creative mod content kept me going for years.
You disliked Sheogorath’s voice actor? That guy was awesome. I loved his bipolar personality, and it was just funny overall to me.
Sheogorath is definitely one of my favorite video game characters.
Cheese for everyone!
Wait, no, scratch that, cheese for no one. Which can be just as much of a celebration if you don’t like cheese.
I’m going to have to agree with Someonerandm, to a degree though. Personally, the terrain itself being computer generated is OK, but the Forts all being pretty much the same in oblivion gave it somewhat of a bring feel to explore various structures. Rarely did i see a ruined for or temple and say, let me explore that. If the ruined structures had their own uniqueness and weren’t copied and pasted in the editor, it would be more drawing for the player to venture in.
P.S. that terrain mod definitely made the game better btw.
Thoughts?
Terrain mod? What terrain mod? I only use Qarl’s Texture Pack 3, and some loading screens and colored map.
I know what you mean, an old style cathedral that stands tall, worn torn, looks dark as fuck, and has been included in a war wreaks with :
“Come check me out and see what shit I got, maybe its valuable.”
instead of a corner edge of an old forgotten fort.
hay gusi hors rmor wus sweet u got @ sets of armr!!!~~!~
Minecraft would like a word with you.
But I do agree to an extent. However I think that the ridiculous amount of recycled assets in Oblivion that made it dull. Oh hey here is this cave, it has a different structure but all the cave walls and objects look exactly the same as the other 100 caves I’ve just explored.
with sheogorath, something just felt wrong with how the voice actor did it, i loved the content, what he said was great, and he did a good job of making it seem crazy, but something just made it seem like the expressions were forced too much, rather than natural… for lack of a better way to describe it
The story and writing in general have been my main complaints with EVERY Bethesda game (that they’ve developed, not published). Also the voice acting. I thought Oblivion solved a lot of Morrowind’s problems, but it did nothing to improve on those two areas, and had the handicap of being in a more generic setting.
If they can manage to pull the gameplay mechanics from Oblivion, the fun setting from Solstheim (which is supposed to be similar to Skyrim) with the writing of New Vegas (hell, they should just hire Obsidian to write it) then it will be pretty much everything I want in an ES game.
When NV first came out, rtanger and I agreed that they should collaborate. Basically Bethesda should borrow Obsidian’s writers for a game. I would also add that they should borrow Obsidian’s voiceover director, as well as whoever found the VAs they used in New Vegas.
I agree on all counts. And they should both share id’s quality control department. I don’t think that company has ever released a buggy game.
Yeah, its partially the repeated assets, but also a human is more capable of using them creatively I find, but in the end it is a problem.
Also, I’m just going to go out on a limb and say Oblivion looks better than Minecraft. Minecraft looks good for a bunch of blocks, but then a 30 year old TV looks good if you live in the 1950s, but we don’t, and it doesn’t.
oh god, who knows what bugs TES V has in store for us.
