it says on various wikis that the events of TES V take place some 200 years after the events of oblivion there’s a tie in book or something like that which was released this year. Though the source of this information is a mystery.
Obsidian developed FNV and Hardcore mode herp derp
Yes but they are closely related to each other. Also a lot of (New)Fallout fans and TES fans are one in the same.
New TES game? Awesome.
Dragons? Sweet.
New graphics engine? Sure, I’ll take that.
But honestly, use the engine you have correctly first. I remember being SO excited about Oblivion’s tech demo. Did anyone else geek out when they grabbed that manacles attached to the chain and moved it around for the first time?
Turns out that the physics in that game were not only useless and not integrated into gameplay, but cool little wow moments like that movable chain were few and far between in Oblivion. Not even the barrels were movable. Oblivion could have been a better game if they took advantage of the engine they had.
Now I’m honestly skeptical. Like… Fable skeptical. Will I even want to level? Is player jumping going to be fixed? Is combat going to be so bland that even the most idiotic modder can make it better? Is making friends going to consist of forcing you to insult them over and over? Will physics actually play a role in gameplay?
I mean, don’t get me wrong. Yay, pretties. But… I more want to throw a rock across the room to distract attention. I more want movement to be fluid. I more want fighting to make me feel awesome.
When I got into work today (I guess it was still night for Futureboy) he kept starting up Morrowind over and over again.
I admit, Oblivion is the only TES game I’ve had the chance to play, but I’m open to playing the older games, and I’m definitely looking forward to Skyrim.
TES 1 and 2 are free ware that you can get on Bethesda’s web site. Just a heads up. Though they are from 1994 and 96 so they are gonna feel dated as hell.
Morrowind is really where the series starts to be great IMO.
Seconded
Morrowind definetly deserves it’s credit. play it
Oh ya I agree, but it’s also not free. Unless you pirate it and when recommending games I usually assume that person pirate things.
I’m happy it’s Skyrim, it was what i was hoping for! : )
I was hoping for one taking place in multiple realms of oblivion. I just love that whole section of lore. Maybe they could incorporate a dwemer dimension explaining their disappearance and it would be my favorite TES game. Although I’d probably be the only one.
i want to explore the other continent on Nirn, maybe you could travel to other areas cause compared to Cyrodil and Morrowind, isn’t Skyrim small?
EDIT:
I guess it’s slightly smaller
One thing that ticked me off about oblivion is that Cyrodil was supposed to be the heart of the empire, and their was a “full scale invasion” but there were no major battles, the siege of kvatch was fought be like four people. I wish that the imperial army was seen to have more of a presence. Long story short, any major battles should have a lot more NPCs on screen. The whole map even in the cities felt empty, i hope they add more depth to the NPCs lives kind of like GTA4.
Summerset Isle looks interesting. Haven’t really thought about it. Weren’t there rumors about TES V taking place there?
Anyway, Skyrims larger than Morrowind (the island). Plus, TES games have a tendency to ignore actual sizes. Wasn’t Daggerfall several thousand square miles (technically)?
I wasn’t aware that Morrowind was that whole area, I thought it was just the island. Wasn’t Daggerfall the whole continent? I didn’t play the first 2 games.
Yes on both counts.
Arena is the whole continent. Morrowind was just the island of Vvardenfell. Daggerfall was High Rock and most if not all of Hammerfell. However Morrowind is .01% the size of Daggerfall’s game map.
For those who haven’t played Daggerfall, I would advise you not to think much of the size of the map. Daggerfall had a map 2x the size of Great Britian and it was pointless because it was no fun to explore.
All I know is that whenever they finally get around to making the final game, it better be all of Tamriel and at least half of Oblivion. Fully detailed with an epic main quest. One that makes the Lord of Rings look like a kid’s book.
That is just waaay to much work and will never happen. Except in your wildest dream maybe. I’d rather have a fully polished 1/10 size of Tamriel than a big land with little content.
We can dream, i just hope that the map is broadly expanded in the expansions. Oh and we don’t have a repeat of the infamous Horse armor.
