Maybe back then but now there’s no excuse.
I thought that was deliberate
I just want to know if they can make Skyrim interesting. Its always struck me as just snow everywhere.
snowmen everywhere
The real question is… will there be working ladders?
I hope bethesda takes a note from the earlier games in the series, namely morrowind and daggerfall.
Oblivion was a good game, but the main quest was cliché and your typical run-of-the-mill fantasy storyline, while Daggerfall and Morrowind both had great main quests, they were much more unique and well thought out, and Daggerfall’s had multiple endings.
I also hope they get rid of the auto-leveling system and instead have actual difficulties, with say the normal one being for average people, and the hardest one being as difficult as daggerfall was. That being said, It would be hard to do considering daggerfall was difficult because of the complexity of the game itself, not because the monsters were super-strong and it was hard to level. Still though, I’d like to see some actual variance, rather then:
Easy - Fantasy FPS with RPG elements and 1-hit kill everything no challenge
Normal - Moderate challenge, middle ground between FPS and RPG
Hard/Very Hard - OH LETS MAKE EVERYTHING HAVE EXTRA HEALTH AND MAKE YOUR WEAPON DO 2 POINTS OF DAMAGE TO EVEN RATS.
The difficulty slider in oblivion was fucking stupid. If i choose hard i want the game to be more difficult, not just More health + less damage, and I don’t want to be able to change it on the fly. If i choose hard, I’m supposed to ride it out, not just switch to easy because its too difficult for me.
And for features I’d like to see two main things - Levitate from DF and Morrowind added back, and the spell/item crafting system from daggerfall added in.
Wait so you want different difficulties but don’t want them to have different difficulties? In a big open world game like TES how are they going to make the game harder without modifying health or damage?
Furthermore you switching it back is your own damn fault.
Personally the style of the trailer has me worried. It comes off more Oblivion and less older TES games. You can just tell by the music and writing for the trailer. I seriously hope it isn’t just another epic quest story.
It is more like Oblivion than Morrowind. Oblivion did better commercially and critically than Morrowind. Thats just the way these things work.
Skyrim is supposed to be a direct sequel to Oblivion’s story anyway.
I’ve never played Morrowind tbh. It’s one of those games I’ll get around to eventually.
Though I did love Oblivion. Even if it did obliterate my social life.
i played oblivion for 2 fucking years and now i 'll finally play tes 5 skyrim…probably for 2 years
Dagger fall is a hard fucking game, i’m hoping that the Complexity is more in the Morrowind territory, i thought that was the best one. I hope that the new engine is awesome and that Bethesda doesn’t get lazy with animating TES V like they have with their older games.
That’s actually never been said afaik. I know they have said that it will be a chronological sequel but haven’t all TES games been that way?
I hope they do get rid of auto leveling. It’s much better if you have enemies with different levels scattered across the world.
You should pretty much get raped by everything until you lvl up a bit and get good armour and weapons.
EDIT: Also I’m totally installing Morrowind tonight and modding the shit out of it, make it look pretty.
By the way, does anyone else really want the Dwemer back? I liked their ruins and lore a lot.
FUCK YES. I knew this announcement was coming, but I’ve just started playing Oblivion again and modding it to death trying to do like 3 full playthroughs with good, evil, caster, thief, and warrior type styles. Maybe I’ll get around to playing Arena and Daggerfall sometime.
NERD ALERT According to the lore the only Dwemer ruins outside of Morrowind were the ones in Hammerfell, so no such luck unless they decide to, like many companies, fuck their own storyline in favor of making money.
Play daggerfall and you will see what i mean about the health + damage, and also, I don’t switch the difficulties while i play, I just think it’s stupid that you can. Making you choose it at the start adversely effects the entire game, while having a slider it becomes more like a gimmick and just a setting .You give the player complete control over it, and if they all of a sudden have a change of heart they just change it themselves.
I have known quite a few people who would start off saying that they were going to play through the game at the hardest difficulty, but then they just switch it back because they feel differently from when they started, while the same people would probably play it through knowing that they’d have to start over if they wanted to change it, as they do typically play other games on harder difficulties. It is also more rewarding when they accomplish things knowing that they are stuck with the game being that difficult, whilst the slider lets players who feel a part is too hard just lower the difficulty and it lessens the reward of doing something.
I know most games difficulty does little more then changing damage, but a lot of older games it would actually change how things act and add or take away certain things in the game, rather then just change a couple of values. Hardcore in Fallout NV would be an example of something that makes it more difficult without changing health values, but it affects the way you play (however, that would be a little much for a difficulty option, so something of a lesser impact would be more appropriate)
I know what you mean about the trailer though. It has the same oblivion feeling. The older ones like Morrowind and DF had a much better atmosphere about them, especially with their music.
So your complaint about difficulty in a single player non-competitive game is that OTHER players abuse it? One of the big issues that I know new players had with Morrowind or Oblivion is that once you choose your stuff in the beginning you have to start over to change it. New players to the series or even the title don’t know how different the difficulties are. The slider gives them the chance to try it before they leap in. Which is what the cave/dungeon before oblivion did with character settings. There is literally no flaw with a slider in Oblivion. Plus with achievements you know if your friend actually did go through with it on hard.
On Hardcore mode, Bethesda tends to listen to fans. The response to Hardcore in FNew Vegas was generally positive. Its not far fetched to expect to see it w/ some tweets in TESV.
