TES V announced at last - it's Skyrim!

I hope I will be able to remake my wood elf in Skyrim.

I just saw fallout’s character editor, and I weeped for Skyrim on the chance that it may be 2% as bad. All of their “we liked this in fallout so we added it to Skyrim” is kind of upsetting to me.

i’m not worried too bad because i’m playing on PC. Mods always “fix” the changes that most people don’t want or like. Even Fallout3 and New Vegas got proper mod treatment. Bethesda is running with combining armor and abbreviating several game features to speed up the development process and increase variety. Anything they leave out or throw in that isn’t so well received will get tweaked with mods.

Take for instance the concept of combined armor types : Bethesda can now put out more armor types and visual varieties since they don’t have to worry about clipping issues. Making every combo of cuirass and set of greaves to work with each other takes more time and tweaking to make work. They took shortcuts in Fallout3 for that same reason, combine pieces of clothing together in one-piece sets to cut down on clipping issues. No doubt, within Skyrim’s first 6 months, there will likely be mods that separate armor bits the same as Fallout3 mods and even Oblivion’s separates pauldrons mods.

if Beth can put out a higher “quantity”, i can still depend on modders to supply the extra “quality”.

I don’t know, there is a certain point where I won’t buy a TES game because its too dependent on modding to be any good.

In fact I made a thread awhile ago on the official skyrim forums on how it isn’t a good thing that people are so soft on Beth just because they will be able to fix things with mods.

Saying you liked minor things better like mysticism being its own skill is different than them removing yet another armor slot when most fans requested more slots. That’s just fucking lazy.

My biggest problems are things mods can’t fix, or have difficulty fixing.

As far as I know, no mod has been able to completely overhaul Fallout’s facegen system to make it not shit, this is something that Bethesda can not take development time away from. Adding an entirely new body piece to a system that does not have it (the difference between lowerbody armor and upperbody armor for example) is a particularily difficult task as far as I am aware, and I am unaware of a mod that does this properly for oblivion or fallout. This is something that, if Beth wants better fitting upper/lowerbody pieces, they probably should atleast make the system easily moddable so that you can make upperbody/lowerbody slots, pauldron slots, extra ring slots, accessory slots and so on instead of having to dick around in the files and make amulets out of everything.

I personally hate the fact that they’re going to be using the fallout 3 equipment system I understand the clipping thing but it dosen’t seem Elder Scrollish to me like it just dosen’t fit in my eyes.

Its a little better than Fallout 3’s system. You still have gloves and boots.

Two steps up from fallout is still a step down from Oblivion. :stuck_out_tongue:

Personally, I don’t mind the armor change. I can’t say that I prefer it to the old system, but gloves and boots will atleast allow a little change. Most importantly, it will allow you to wear elven armor without the faggot boots, which is probably the whole reason they are allowing boot changes to begin with.

The elvin boots always reminded me of retarded duck feet. The color didn’t even go along with the rest of the elvin armor. I remember just wearing enchanted steel boots with most armor sets bc they were my favorite pair of wheels to run in.

And like Todd said, with the clipping issues out of the way, we have much more armor sets to choose from and the game doesn’t choke up as much as it would with separate greives/cuirass. So i think it’s beneficial and a good idea.

Besides, who would want to mix glass greaves with deadric armor anyway? ew. lol.

I want to mix glass grieves with deadric armor.

The slogan that Beth seems to be using for TES is be what you want to be and do what ever you want to do. But it seems like with every sequel they remove more things to do.

I mostly care about is exploration, so as long as the world is big and detailed, I’m happy. Not to mention we should wait until we see the perks before we judge how limited it is.

Also, can I note that the conversation in Oblivion is comedy gold and should be left in.

“I saw a mudcrab the other day…”

Also, a rebel in half-life 2 saying, “i saw a headcrab the other day; horrible little things.”

My favorite:

NPC 1: Shenanigans going down in Morrowind
NPC 2: (In a conspiratorial tone) Good to know
NPC 1: Bye

The best I had was (roughly):

NPC1: Did you hear? All of Anvil’s preists have been MURDERED!"

NPC2: “BY THE GODS!!”

NPC1: “I’ve heard others say the same.”

“How are you?”

“I’ve been better…”

“That’s too bad.” walks away

i don’t know, guys. i found Oblivion dialogue to be the best ever written.

^ gets whacked on the head with a cleaver

“What’s going on!?”

Lol.

In all honesty, Shivering Isles was incredibly well written.

Sheogorath’s voice actor was great stuff.

i’m sorry, but i wasn’t pleased at all with Shivering isles.
The main story was too predictable, the new environment didn’t have enough fun activities to keep me interested and the character were all too forgettable. i’m sorry, but that’s just how i feel. it was sort of supposed to feel like a surreal through-the-looking-glass deal and it didn’t come off that way for me. it just confused me. Like one long “WTF”. Some of the new content was pretty sweet but very little of it was used outside the isles though. As far as writing goes, the dialogue for Sheogorath would have been pretty funny had they casted George Carlin for the voice and the game’s dialogue ‘mode’ and subtitles didn’t kill the comedic timing.

i play through each questline in Elder Scrolls games as original characters. One for the fighters’ guild, one for the thieves’ guild, etc. The character that i put together for Shivering isles was a young explorer, non-combat type so i got my ass handed to me on several occasions. i had far too many problems with the expansion as a whole, not to mention countless crashes that i just couldn’t get into it. i might pick it up again sometimes down the road, but it won’t be any time soon.

I loved it, especially how it had the two halves of the island being complete opposites it really kept me entertained!
