The second murdered the series. The third defecated on it’s corpse. The new kinect version will proceed to rape it’s faeces encrusted corpse.
Wasn’t there more than a few references in the last game about Nords not being the marrying kind?
Personally can’t see why you’d want to get married anyway. The tavern brawls sound fun though.
Now that you mention it, Alga and Honmund of Bruma are live-in partners in the “old Nord way”. Which leads me to wonder if Nords may have some other definition of marriage. Maybe marriage is a new thing in their society. Or better yet, rather than having one bride, Nord men could take multiple…“live-in partners”. Which would make sense for an open world game like Elder Scrolls. i think even Fable let you take multiple wives in different towns.
My guess is that Nord marriage probably involves a large blunt instrument.

TAVERN BRAWLS. :AWESOME:
Tavern brawls are probably how you meet and marry NPCs. That or part of the wedding reception.

A wife in every town - now there’s a glutton for punishment.
My aim is to be that one guy who starts a meaningless brawl wherever he goes. Spill my drink? Look at me wrong? Look at my woman wrong? Scuff my boots? Feeling insecure about my penis size? it’s GO TiME!!
Whenever i walk through the front door, everybody’ll be like, “Oh great, it’s him again.”
Which makes me wonder if hand-to-hand may play a stronger roll in the game than we’ve been lead to believe since H2H was said to have been removed. Maybe it’s no longer involved in any “skill tree”, but there could still be perks and learned techniques. i don’t think “strength skill” alone should be used to determine your style/damage ratio.
Still hoping for non-lethal combat though. i like playing pacifist characters.

I see what you did there and i lol’d.
I will be the most feared tavern brawler in all of Skyrim. I will travel to each city on foot, walk into each tavern, chug a bottle of whiskey for my warmup, and throwdown gaining a truly respected reputation as a Nordic Badass.
I will travel to each tavern, defeat the leader of each fist fighting club, and thereby finish the fistfighting quest.
Quest “Way of the Fist” Completed
Oh yeah they’ll see how good I am with my fists.
…
Wait wha- :fffuuu:
Nah, unless you can have sex with your partner (possibly to get some sort of health bonus), I don’t see the point of getting married in the game.
I’ll still probably try to make a mess in my house and see if she cleans it but if she doesn’t, then out with her
There will probably be some advantages to having a wife. Maybe she’d pack you a lunch. Also I guess there would probably be advantages to having a husband if you play a woman.
Improving your cooking skills
As sexist as it might (or will) sound, playing a male character and getting hitched to a girl you can leave at home sounds great. But playing as a female character, how would you go about GETTiNG married? in most societies, real or fiction, isn’t it supposed to be the MAN who proposes? So does that mean that NPC men will seek out your female character? Or would you (she) still have to do the manhunting? And for that matter, if your female character brings home a male NPC and he moves in, does that mean HE stays home and washes your armor collection?
it’d be mighty awkward to be the stay-at-home husband while the wife goes out hunting mammoths and slaying dragons. A fruity look’n muscle-bound Nord in a frilly French maid outfit comes to mind. Believe me, i searched TESNexus for a such a mod and screenshots but it’s surprising that there’s no such costume for male characters.
…YET. No doubt, for Skyrim, there will be.

Believe it or not, not all societies are patriarchal. Not that I am implying that nords are matriarchs but still.
haha Tei, you are awesome.
Having that scenerio would really put a dent in the whole feel of Skyrim i would think. It’d just make men look weak. I mean, c’mon, a MAN making the sandwiches for the woman? Aww hell naw.
What I will guess, is that if you marry a merchant or a farmer, they will probably be more than happy staying at home, regardless of gender. If you marry a warrior or a thief, (once again, regardless of gender) they will probably come with you on your journies and quests.
i didn’t think about marrying a merchant. Marrying into a business might be pretty cool, bringing home goodies for your spouse to sell. Sharing responsibilities with another character sounds like fun if they program it right. 'cept i wouldn’t want to marry anybody who could best me in combat though. i screw up enough shit in my REAL relationship. Taking my girl to work with me would be awkward too.
“Darling, you need to stab with a downward motion.
Try to cut into their flesh like i’m doing.”
“God dammit, i KNOW! Step telling me how to do my job!”
“Honey, dear, i’m just saying.”
“Bitch, shut your cry hole and keep casting those spells!”
“Don’t talk to me like that. i’m going home.”
“Oh, come on! Don’t turn this into a ‘thing’ with you.”
“When you come home, there’ll be mammoth sausages
thawing in the sink. You can cook your own damn dinner.”
“Fine! i don’t need this crap and i don’t need you!”
“Fine!”
“Fine!”
The friendship building mechanic sounds fun though. Being able to make friends and build small raiding parties was fun in Oblivion with mods. i’m hoping Bethesda takes some inspiration from Talkie Toaster’s Companion Mod.

I would have to say that your guess, well, it sounds fucking good.
But even though that would be the best and most useful way of the relationship system Skyrim has goin on, I’m going to say there are only like 10 scripted npc’s in the game that will have relationship/marriage dialogue to choose from. And each npc out of the 10 would be different unique persons, and of course, male or female depending on which gender you play as.
