TES V announced at last - it's Skyrim!

Looks good but does anyone know if it still uses gamebyro. If no I will miss ESM’s and esp’s… :frowning:

Aslong as the use the same voice actor for Lucian lachance and Mr.Burke again, ill be a happy man.

OK that looks really promising. Can’t wait for more. Ah damn you can’t read the blurry text. What a shame

Somewhere was said they would use a new engine. Gamebryo is a little outdated I think.

But they surely will make the game as easily moddable as the predecessors, looking at both TES 3 and 4 AND Fallout 3/NV. I think Bethesda likes what the community makes with their games.

Edit: Also:

…btw I hated Morrowind for not being able to hit/incinerate anything. Thus I never got so much into it and stopped playing really early even though I have all the addons…

I have high hopes for Skyrim. Though, due to me reading the Eragon-Books(Inheritance Cycle) and having played Divinity 2 I have a more positive view on dragons. Hopefully the reasons for the wrath of the dragons is explained. It sucks if you just have your enemy and the game demands: Fight it!
Oh and I hope the magic-system will be improved. I didn`t like how there were only 10 different visual effects for the spells back in oblivion. In fact I didn´t like the magic-system at all. All this leveling for the destruction skill was bscly worth nothing. The spells didn´t actually do so much damage(or used a ridiculous amount of mana) and the destruction skill didn´t boost spell damage, which you would await, wouldn´t you?
There was just no way for you to feel like a really mighty wizard, which I had hoped for. When you casted you most powerfull spell and it was just a little fireball maybe being able to instakill your enemy who just drops dead burning a little…whoohoo

Lotsa stuff there!

gonna rule

They put in Dynamic Snow. Rot’ll be happy.

I’m conflicted over there being less skills but I will say that Morrowind probably had too many. Having three different armor types ultimately was annoying and the number of weapons skills made trying out new weapons prohibitive. We’ll see what they cut and I’ll judge it from there.

I will speak for everyone when I say look at the NPC faces. We all know that’s all we care about. LOOK AT THE FACES!

oh thank god finally the conversation system is better. That’s the exact reason why I just couldn’t get into oblivion or fallout 3. shit was ugly.

I’ll certainly be wasting days of my life in Skyrim.

After reading some about it, and looking at those screens I have higher hopes for Skyrim - It looks to be a darker fantasy world more like TES games before Oblivion, and It just looks better overall.

Something always annoyed me about the Gamebryo engine. I just never liked how it looked.

Funny, one of the things that I always loved about Daggerfall is how when It snowed the ground was covered, and now that’s in this game, as well as enchanting.

Love all the changes except lowering the amount of skills.

Eh, I bet it was some skills no one almost ever used.

I’d rather have a more focused experience, where my own skills and choices as a player are what shape my character instead of choosing things from a list.

Also, I’m more interested in what the world can let me do and this game seems to deliver more than Oblivion in that aspect.

Yes true, but you see I’m worried about my choices being limited.

i’d actually much rather a leveling system where you learn by doing. i don’t like the idea of leveling up and repeatedly upping a skill i’ve never used. Realistically, you shouldn’t be able to swing a sword correctly and accurately at level 20 if you’ve never even held a blade.

i also like how Morrowind had SEPERATE blade skills; dagger, short sword, long sword, etc. Because a thief with mastery of his dagger shouldn’t necessarily be an expert with a newly acquired broadsword. My dream leveling system would also use a handling mechanic that increases with a weapon’s use. if you’ve ever actually used a sword, you’d know that the longer you use a particular blade, the more natural it feels to you. if you’re accustomed to your own brand of pointy thing, there’s no reason you’d feel just as comfortable swinging around a weapon you’ve never held. Likewise with spells, if your mage can cast a mean fireball with ease, what’s to say he can throw a recently learned lightning spell just as well?

A guy can dream. i only hope that this new engine is as easy to mod with.

While logically separate skills make sense, in game it become some what annoying to pull off. In Morrowind for instance I would almost exclusively use one type of weapon as I gain more a more experience in its use. While this is logical, it isn’t as fun for me. If I find a cool long sword later on and want to use it, logically I can’t, but for the sake of fun why not let me? It broadens my strategic choices and serves to make the game more open, not less. I believe Morrowind suffered from these separations. Having five skills for attacking and three for armor meant that you had little choice in the late game of how to attack a problem.
Also, the worst thing you could do for the game is make a person reliant on a particular weapon. Not to beat a dead horse, but logic≠fun. Being tied to a single weapon would be even worse that specific specializations for weapons, you would end up being able to play the game one and only one way.

Jesus Christ thats a confusing block of text.

It would be cool if you could invite a friend or friends into your world temporarily and play quests together. The game already takes into account your character level when assigning difficulty to quests so it should be able to take into account extra characters.

Don’t worry, I’m sure there’ll be thousands of mods putting them back in after its release.

It’s hardly confusing and you make a valid point. The thing is it’s simply a matter of preference. Regardless of if a game lets me or not if I make a character it usually sticks with the same kind of weapon so multiple blade skills doesn’t bother me. Some people it does, some people like him don’t like it when it doesn’t.

On the topic of weapons, I’d like to see pole arms come back. And of course if you’re going to bring back pole arms they should do it with style by adding proper horse back combat

Well, if each weapon had its own respective “skill”, there would have to be some kind of middleground. if you level-grind your dagger skill up to 100 and never touch a short sword, i’d assume your shortsword “skill” would increase at least slightly with your dagger skill to about 35.

You’d at least know which end of the sword to grasp and would probably know how to swing it, but your accuracy and damage wouldn’t be nearly as high. This way if your thief DOES happen to stumble upon an enchanted claymore, he could probably still use it in a pinch.
