taskbar's gone, cant surf web, Sombody help please?

Okay, first off, I’m on another computer right now, but mine is really screwed up suddenly. To start, my taskbar is now a thin grey line, np start button, no clock, it’s useles. I cant fix that, I’ve gone into the properties, (when i right click the grey bar is acts like the taskbar, i can go into the properties and whatnot…) and i cant fix that…When i try to open my internet explorer, it doesn’t do anything. The mouse cursor turns into th hourglass like usually, then it changes back and nothing happens! I can open Firefox but i cant search anything. It gives me a page saying it cant find a certain file in the firefox root folder, yet i know its there… if i minimize something i cant get it back up. i cant access the start menu, even if i push the windows logo! I pushed Ctrl+Alt+Del, and checked that explorer.exe was running, it was, and yet it still doesnt show anything. Can somebody please help me? I go crazy without a computer, and i can’t afford another one…
Yes, I’m using XP.

For the taskbar, just right click on it and see if “lock the taskbar” is checked. If so, uncheck it. Then, put your mouse on the bar until it changes into two arrows relied together. Then, click and hold it, then drag it up.

If what Imonfire said doesn’t work, I’d suggest backing up all of your personal files then doing a clean install of Windows.
Sometimes Windows does strange things like this.

But not on purpose. Do a virus scan.

Any news on it yet?

I found older versions of Windows just do it.
A virus scan is important before doing anything as drastic as a clean install.

I lol’d.

End the explorer.exe process then start it again.

Duh.

Nothin yet except for the taskbar. I had to switch most of the stuff back to windows classic, but if i minimize something it doesn’t appear down there. also, i cant drag, copy, paste or move ANYTHING, and i cant open the user account that has most of my data. I click it, it says loading your personal settings, the Background loads up, then it goes back to the welcome screen.

And I’ve done every possible thing i could think of with explorer.exe…

I’m just assuming you’re using XP… since you haven’t specified.

Sounds like it could be a problem in the registry.

Try doing a windows repair with your windows installation CD. If that doesn’t work and this problem is really limiting your access then you may want to try ‘acquiring’ a program called Uniblue Registry Booster 2009, if it is indeed a registry problem it will probably fix it… a lot of people doubt such programs but this particular one has saved my ass a couple of times already.

Also, make a backup of your system before repairing windows or doing that registry fix thing.

Right-click on the grey bar, select Properties, check everything but the second choice.

Delete firefox/IE and download/install it again.

I think that’s a spyware problem, you need to reinstall windows from scratch and do a full hdd scan with your favourite antivirus program. Backup your files before formatting.

Okay, i got mytaskbar back, yes i am on xp, i cant download/install anything,(for some reason i cant surf the web in anyway…) i dont have my CD to reinstall windows(this computer was given to me), and if Uniblue Registry Booster 2009 needs to be bought or downloaded I’m outta luck cuz i’m hardly makin’ the bills, let alone spend $10-$100 on a cd, and agaiin, i can’t use the internet.
At the moment my computer has a REALLY sucky version of the Norton virus protection thing.

How do you manage to post here?

Edit: nvm

You can download a windows ISO from a torrent or whatever, as long as it’s the same language as yours. You can then reinstall using the license of your current install (usually a sticker on the case). The windows license is not “linked” to the cd itself.

I suggest not just ‘repairing’ windows… backup your stuff and do a full format / clean install. You might want to check the drivers you have and back them up as well, though windows update can usually get you most of them automatically. Or just check what they are so you can visit the websites and download them. (Control panel, System, Hardware, Device manager)

I guess I’m screwed then. Cuz i cant download anything, nor can i backup my data Because the only way i know to do that involves dragging files, which i cant do for some reason…

Get something like a linux live cd to work from then, via the one you are posting from.
Or if you need something smaller, stick FreeDOS on a USB stick and boot from that.

Use your temporary computer to download back-track 3 final to a flash drive and run bootinst.bat from it, you will have a working installation of linux that boots from USB

boot it on your fucked up PC and use that to browse the internet and eventually download windows and burn it to CD using nero or whatever you have on your PC that can make CD’s (not the windows CD burning tool).

Would It work if I burn Back track onto a CD? My only flash drive i have is only 512 MB and Now that I need one none off the retailers have them. also, is “Remote-Exploit” the place I should get this from. My friends lent me his laptop and I dont wanna screw his up…

Also, thank for all the help, everbody. I thought I’d only get like, 2 replies with advice on things that I already tried…
