You’ll find the survival horror genre doesn’t have that many great games.

Dead Space, RE5 (not that scary), DOOM 3 (not really a survival horror, but its scary as shit the first playthru).

I know there are plenty of good physiological horrors out there, but I can’t think of any “survival” horror games that are actually scary, as much as fast paced and startling.

Dead Space is a pretty good game. Then if your looking for just scary, not necessarily “survival horror”, then the FEAR series is one that i enjoyed.
haven’t played it but supposedly the Penumbra series is good

F.E.A.R.s, Doom 3 and REs aren’t survival horrors. They’re shooters with horror elements, but there’s no “survival” elements in them. I’d say that Silent Hills are survival horror, and I also heard that The Void was a survival horror too. And if you want Psychological Horror games, you could go with The Path.

The Penumbra Series, scared the shizzle out of me, its more of a puzzler then a shooter, but it is scary

Afraid of Monsters Director’s Edition for HL1. And coming soon from the same author, Cry of Fear. Looks fucking awesome and scary as tits.

I agree, Dead Space is fantastic. The sequel should be even better, because you’ll be on a planet and be able to C-C-CURB STOMP naked schoolchildren.
