^^ This is what I would have said.
And what is wrong with total conversion onto another game engine? Also, I just gave it a shot, knowing the struggles that would strike the
developers if they would choose to do as I just asked.
First up, everything I just listed.
Secondly, they’re working in their spare time as this is not their job. It is a hobby. It’s not as simple as putting it in a new engine and magically everything’s all overly shiny and high-res. Everything would need to be reworked, and a lot of features that Source natively has would need to be programmed for CE. This means a large portion of the last 8 years of their lives would go to waste and need to be redone for a very low amount of payoff.
Not to mention that CE is an absolutely horrible engine for indoor environments, which is what most of Black Mesa is.
Seriously, they’ve been getting “Source is outdated, upgrade to CE or Unreal!!!” for years. It’s just not worth it.
Well, if it could have the graphic fidelity of “Crysis 3”, then I am for it!
IT would not be cool, even if you think it would. different engines are meant for different things, in order to move to a different engine they would have to completely rework the game to fit that engine and that means a lot would be taken away.
IT would be like trying to DOS putt putt, on the age of empires engine, even if you get it to work every one will be looking at you like your an idiots and some one would be sueing you.
Besides, Black Mesa already looks friggin’ amazing.
If you can’t wait, you’re welcome to try and make it happen.
There’s a lot more to engines than their graphics. I’ve used Source extensively, and dabbled in using Cryengine, and I can tell you that the way the two work under the hood is entirely different - there would be a learning curve, all the assets would have to be converted (or more likely, re-made from scratch), the engine code would have to be drastically retooled for the player movement, HUD, and interaction to behave for the player the way it does in Source, and there are a lot of things that Source can do that Cryengine simply can’t, like the aforementioned indoor areas.
It would basically amount to doing all the work already done again, and then some, for zero gain - BEFORE they can even consider using all the pretty graphics effects.
And that’s not to mention the legal hoops they’d have to jump through to license cryengine, get permission from Valve to use their IP on a competing engine, etc etc.
And it’s not even that Source isn’t capable of handling the effects Cryengine has. It can, it’s just nobody’s implemented it yet.
(Also, Titanfall looks just as amazing as any recent Cryengine game, if you factor in for the different art styles and settings. Titanfall runs on source.)
And anyway, we’ve been told that since their agreement with Valve the devs have been allowed to work on a new version of Source (no, not 3, probably) for the paid version and who’s to say that wouldn’t piss all over Crysis anyway?
I got one. Make the TOW not garbage. Automatic reload, faster turn rate, higher damage or all of the above.
Probably vortigaunts could roam around the area and examine stuff when they find an enemy.
EDIT:
I think Blast Pit need to have more jumping puzzles in the pipes. Well at least for me.
EDIT 2:
Have Gordon run/walk faster without his suit on.
It’s the second-most powerful player-usable explosive in the game, after the mortar field. Also, I for one thought manual reloads were a cool gameplay mechanic. The turn rate I’m neutral on, but the rest of it was both balanced and enjoyable.
I didn’t mind running around the Blast Pit tentacle instead of sneaking around, but the change was poorly conveyed, and it’s a huge shame they couldn’t make both strategies valid.
Also, no tentacle in Surface Tension. Why?
I didn’t know lying was allowed here
lying is preferred
What would the Black Mesa forums be without lies?
On topic, I agree with everything Jif said, though the turn rate could be ever so slight increased. Just a tad.
give the player the glock and mp5 sooner
they need something to shoot the first houndeye with, and it’s bullshit how they’re forced to learn using the mp5 during a fight with the game’s hardest enemies
It’s much more fun with the tension of facing an enemy while you’re relatively unequipped for the situation, especially while the facility is going to shit around you… kinda seems more immersive that way.
I agree with Lord 707; it doesn’t really help to the immersion and tension if the game just hands you firearms fast; Having to rescue the scientist to get the gun is much more plausible, considering you are getting into a security office to do so. Plus, when you face the soldiers, you already have the magnum, which is powerful enough to kill that one before you get the mp5. The challenge adds to the gameplay experience.
-
Why have all the security guard’s pistols disappeared up until the office?
-
How are you expected to kill the houndeye without getting hurt?
i’m pretty sure someone did a 1hp crowbar only playthrough of BM
I am 100% sure you can get not only a Glock, but grenades quite a bit before that.
If you were supposed to be able to do everything without getting hurt then it wouldn’t be much of a game.
Also, the MP5 is a military weapon. It makes sense that you don’t get one until they’re around.
