Suggestion for content after Xen: Linkup with the HL2 beginning.

I have a suggestion of content to be added after the Xen levels are complete:

Make some levels that connect the Half-Life 1 ending (eg Black Mesa Source Ending) seamlessly with the begin of the Half Life 2 beginning. (like the episodic content does link seamlessly with each other)

I dont really know or understand the story completely so I dont know if its possible “story-wise” to do that, but to my understanding, the HL1 story is in some way related to the HL2 story.

Yes, Half-Life 2’s story is essentially directly related to Half-Life’s story.
For the quick brief on the the story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_(series)#Plot

In any case, seeing that Black Mesa is a overhaul of Half-Life, I’d think your idea would possible mod for Black Mesa, rather than a full on segment of the game.

I don’t see how you could make the transition any more seamless than it already is. GMan hires Gordon. Gordon sleeps. GMan wakes up Gordon 20 years later and plops him on a train to C17. This is exactly what you see happening at the end of HL and the beginning of HL2.

I’m pretty he’s talking about how the Black Mesa Incident caused the Combine to arrive isn’t super apparent.

Unless you play as someone who isn’t Gordon, there’s no way for there to be any additional content that could possibly reveal that in any way.

Not to mention, it’s pretty obvious that the RC indirectly caused the Combine’s arrival if you play through HL2 and paid attention at all to what the characters say, especially in the Black Mesa East level. The point of HL2’s storytelling was to reveal the backstory gradually over time anyway.

Fair enough, I guess. I get what he’s trying to say though, but I think HL2 and HL storytelling is fine the way it is. It was a little mysterious and ambiguous the first time I played, but it made it really fun.

Remove Gordon’s Suit in G-man sequence xD

The thing about Half-Life is that the story isn’t explicitly told to you as it would be in more traditional ways. Your intended to know only as much as Freeman, the rest you’ve got to piece together.

It’s revealed by paying close attention to the background, and dialogue, both main and background, and subtle, and additionally material outside of the game. This transition event was originally going to be explained in a monologue by G-Man, but that was changed. It wouldn’t fit Half-Life’s style.

Except for the flub where the G-Man says, “As for the suit, I think you earned it”, I think it’s fine that HL1 ends with the screen going black (Gordon essentially blacking out), then coming to the G-Man speaking to him, telling him to “wake up and smell the ashes” and dropped in the dystopian police-state without much in the way of information, then having to piece together what happened.

That’s one strange thing, possibly a retcon. G-Man lets him keep the suit at the end of HL1, but he doesn’t have it in HL2.

Yes, I’m sure the blaze orange power suit would blend in with the combine-mandated denim jumpsuits.

Although I do agree that part of Half life’s charm is the subtle story and narrative that makes the player piece it together, I recon some kind of mod that makes you play as a scientist or security guard that escapes the facility after the portal is closed would be cool.

Well, didn’t he kind of let Gordon keep the suit by somehow delivering it into Kleiner’s hands? (Most likely through Eli, methinks)
He still has it, he just had to pick it up.

If only it were somehow possible to remove the clothes of someone who is sleeping and unable to defend themselves…

No, I got nothing. Obvious continuity error. We should fire Mark Laidlaw or what’s-his-name.

I’d always just assumed G-Man gave him civies so he didn’t draw immediate attention, waltzing around in armor in an alien-controlled police state.

To be fair, he did say that Gordon gets to keep the suit, but he never said anything about Gordon continuing to wear it. He could’ve just given it to Kleiner so that he could upgrade it to the Mk. 5.

I think they should just cut the line “As for the suit, I think you earned it.” line at the ending. Or change it to something like “As for the suit, I think you earned it, but my employers insist that I must take it from you.” Or something like “As for the suit, I think you earned it, but I must take it from you, for the time being.” (Something along these lines)

You know, some line to explain why we didn’t have the suit at the beginning of HL2. Because G-Man took it from us. I feel they didn’t think about if you would start with your HEV suit in the sequel or not while developing the first game. They probably didn’t even know if there would be a sequel.

What would Gordon wear after the game while watching Xen scenes?

Yeah, that’s not helpful. What does that even supposed to mean? Do you agree with me? Do you think it is funny? I am not sure how to respond to that…

I think he accidentally typed his reply inside your quote.
