yrr, if you haven’t played Thief games before, you are in for a treat. Expecially with Thief2. Karas (the antagonist) is one of my very favorite villians of all times. The VO for him (and his steampunk robots) is f-ing incredible… and hilarious. They are all great, but damn, do they need a redo with a modern engine – at least 1 & 2… Deadly Shadows does not look horrible… yet.
And I still have the floppies from Wolf3D and first version of Doom (maybe beta)… downloaded from a BBS back in the stone age. I wonder if they are still there, magnetically I mean.
That reminds me, you young bastards have noooo idea just how wonderful it is to be able to dl many gigs of gaming goodness and pretty much expect it run from the get-go. Back in the early nineties, you would sometimes get a bad floppy in your game box (they used to come in boxes) of multiple floppies (1.44mb each) and would have to physically send it to publisher to swap for new. If that wasn’t enough, you would have to jump thru like 10,000 hoops to get the mutherfucking thing to work!.. create boot disks with autoexec.bat and config.sys tweaks until you could get your goddamn sound drivers working etc!!.. omfg!.. I certainly never reminisce about those particular good-old-days… I try very hard to forget all that, actually… Me and my shrink are still working on it…
