Steam forums possibly hacked

From earlier today. For those of you who don’t already know, the steam forums security was compromised.

IF you have an account and your login information is the same as your steam account itself, start taking security measures. Even then plug in steam guard and the like.

Edit: Thread name changed since it was a deeper hack than expected.

Lol, possibly hacked? Yeah I guess you know there is always the chance valve put a bunch of links to a hacking website on their own gaming forums.

An administrators account could have been compromised. Not the entire forum. Think before posting.

The articles also say “possibly” so take that into account.

Well, this sucks.

Valve warned you, bitches. They told you not to make your SPUF username the same as your steam login.

Jethrosoup, the last frame of your signature gif was my face.
Luckily, Steam Guard is there for a reason.
They can’t get through that? …Right?
I mean, Gabe even announced is Steam ID and password a while back.

Well unless hacker got access to your E-mail, you’re screwed.

Haha, people who use their Steam account info as they SPUF login is stupid…:lambda:B)
…Well I do, but it’s for my old steam account, it’s VAC’d on all source games, they can have that one if they want to.

all it would take to do that is to get access to an administrator’s username and password. That’s hardly hacking. At best, whoever did this is a script kiddie and exploited a hole in the bulletin software valve uses… regardless, its just a harmless prank, nbd

It’s harmless until someone abuses it.

If it’s just an admin forum account that was compromised then I’d place the blame on a non Valve developer on Steam.

Due to the bad security of some game developers (BioWare, CodeMasters, Sony, etc).

Huh, the forums are still down. I wonder how extensive the damage is.

They’re probably doing a major overhaul on the forum software so it’s more secure.

At least there are no reports of the HL3 source code hitting the torrent sites.

That isn’t good news. Maybe something like that would put their asses in gear.

^^^^

I’m just going off of what happened last time, when it delayed the game a year.

Looks like Steam DID get hacked:

It also looks like Valve had their shit together and the chances of credit card info leaking are pretty low.

Our Steam accounts and CC info are secure. The forum servers are totally independent from the Steam servers.

The article states that they also hacked a Steam database containing usernames, passwords, id’s and credit card numbers. But that info was salted/encrypted/whatevered. Plus, Steamguard.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
