Stargate Movie Reboot

^Agree with all of the above.
SG:U cast and concept were good, the characters (most of them), plot and tone? Not so much.

([COLOR=‘DarkOrange’]*17 seasons - SG:U is canon, isn’t it?)

Well, I personally do not consider it canon until I’ve watched it and liked it, sorry for the little misunderstanding there.

I think you just listed most of the reasons why I don’t like the remade Battlestar Galactica.

Those work for that show, but I would have to add a few to the list for that one.

Battlestar Galactica was a rollercoaster in terms of quality. Season 1 was brilliant all throughout, Season 2 started strong but then it kept going up and down with the fucking filler episodes, Season 3 started out brilliant again but suffered from too many filler episodes again, Season 4 was just fucking weird from start to finish but I kinda liked it.

This is why I think american tv show seasons should be shorter and have 13 episodes per season at most. This way the plot is tighter and moves at a quicker pace, and we don’t have to suffer through filler episodes so often.

I like how long the episodes are in Stargate and that there are about 20 episodes with each season, but then again, I saw almost no filler episodes in SG-1 and Atlantis.

I actually thought Universe was pretty good. I agree that it was unbalanced in some respects, such as the caricatural portrayal of the strong military and the helpless civilizians (which was already the case in SG anyway, as well as many other US programs), but overall I thought the atmosphere was spot on, the acting was pretty good, and it was much less likely to fall prey to unnecessary drama and action than the other series.

I quite enjoy it when a show takes its time to create a convincing setting and doesn’t try to keep its viewers’ attention with fast plots and gimmicky action.

Episodic shows like Stargate are generally free of filler episodes because most of the time the episodes are not direct continuations of each other so they can do more different things all the time.

In serial shows like BSG or Breaking Bad there is a continuous plot divided by the episodes, so filler episodes stick out like a sore thumb.

Stargate made pretty good filler episodes either way. Moebius in season 8 was a filler and those two episodes are two of my favourites.

The one where they are trapped in a constant time loop and only Jack O’Neill and Teal’c is aware of it is also golden.

^ Oh man, that one was funny. Teal’c’s position starting a time loop was brilliant.

So many good quotes too:

“Lose it… It means go crazy, nuts, insane, bonzo, no longer in possession of ones faculties, three fries short of a Happy Meal, wacko!”

“RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY BACKSWING?!”

The only episode that rivals Window of Opportunity is 200. I love that scene where Jack is invisible.

Or the edgier, younger, extremier version of SG-1, which basically foreshadowed SG Universe.

Sooo, now that we’ve talked about the upcoming reboot and come to the agreement that it will most likely suck, let’s turn this thread into a Stargate discussion thread! I personally hope they’ll get the Asgard out of their procreation problems, it would be sad to see a race that awesome die.

Didn’t the Asgard basically commit mass suicide and gave all their technology and knowledge to the humans?

I think the remaining Asgard either joined the humans (there’re a few Asgard helping the humans in SGA) or waited for their imminent death on their home planet Orilla. But yeah, they did give all their technology to the humans.

Hmm, don’t remember seeing any Asgard on SGA.

Did you like the Ori storyline? Apparently Season 8 was planned out to be the last one but then Syfy renewed for more seasons so they had to pull a new enemy out of their hats.

Personally I thought it was a bit slow and the Ori weren’t a particularly interesting race but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Hermiod on Daedalus? How can you not remember Hermiod?! He was the funniest Asgard, especially when he teased McKay.

And the Ori were fine, I guess. But I think they would have fitted better in SGA since SGA was more about the Ancients than SG-1 was.

I am a bit confused though, how do they gain power by having mortals worship them?

Don’t worry. You have to grow up to appreciate battlestar. When I first saw it (2-3 episodes back in 2006) I hated it. This year I’ve watched the whole thing and it was amazing. Though I still like SG better, since I pretty much grew up with that show.
