Stargate Movie Reboot

So Roland Emmerich is trying to reboot Stargate… thoughts? Personally, I liked the 1994 movie, but the TV shows (except Universe) are the golden part of the Stargate franchise.

I think what has been done stands up well enough right now that rebooting isn’t necessary. Much like Spiderman, I don’t see the point.

I’m cautiously curious. Emmerich has been steadily going downhill since Stargate/Independence Day so this will most likely suck as well but I’m a Stargate fan, so I’ll see it out of curiosity.

I really hope they’ll start Atlantis up again, they shouldn’t just leave it at the gigantic cliffhanger season 5 ended with. Emmerich rebooting the movies and cancelling out the 15 seasons of canon is kinda a spit in the face.

Apparently he never liked the series anyway.

I wonder if he’ll do the whole Ra plot again or come up with a new antagonist.

Yeah, he had nothing to do with anything after the first movie. IIRC he had something completely different in mind, and he wants to do the sequel he envisioned, or something.

So it’s gonna be shit, most likely.

At first I was all: YAAYYY

Then I read:

and now I’m all

:’(

I hope it still has something to do with ancient egypt, that really made Stargate differ from a lot of other sci-fi movies and shows I’ve watched.

Wow, so he’s just gonna reboot it and ditch years of lore just because it wasn’t what he wanted?

Completely uninterested in this then.

Well, like Maxey said, I’m a huge Stargate fan so I’m gonna take a look at it, but I’ll probably hate it.
Oh by the way, the executive producer/writer of the Stargate TV shows talked about why the Stargate series should come back to TV.

Exactly. There are a lot of older movies that wanted to be bigger than they were, or could stand to have a makeover in some way that are getting ignored. For instance, I love Forbidden Planet, but the visuals in it are shit. I would love to see the director of Moon do a remake of that movie (or anyone that knows how to take their time and let the story unfold at a slow pace, it’s not an action movie and never should be). I would be willing to bet he could do a tremendous job of that.

eeeexactly.

The Hulk gets a reboot. Spiderman gets a reboot. Spawn doesn’t get a reboot. What the fuck.

Hollywood logic:

Proven IP that sold well then = Proven IP that sells well now. And sometimes it works. Go figure everyone follows the leader and remakes old shit.

The Hulk needed a reboot. That is one I won’t argue with.

I think in order for the reboot to work, the new one has to be better than the last. Like with Dredd.

The Hulk…egh. Ang Lee took some strange liberties, sure, but Louis Leterrier’s did not engage me at all. It felt like the GI Joe movie.

im sorta annoyed about the carrie remake thats about to hit cuz that movie is perfect

Yeeeeah definitely

they should just start re-releasing these old movies in theaters remastered if they want them so damn bad. Fuck, I’d go to an Imax to see Robocop and Carrie and Stargate and Total Recall.

They don’t even have to waste money making whole movies :T

Hay gaiz. Starship Troopers reboot?

Forgot about Dredd. That one was worth doing too.
