Isn’t that how it works? I mean, isn’t that the point of religions? The more followers a religion has, the more powerful their god gets, right?
At least, that’s what Black and White taught me.

Stargate Universe was actually quite good in my opinion. Very different than the other series, but Stargate Atlantis just went overboard in the later seasons with the stories getting more and more absurd. So did SG-1. Energy lifeforms sapping power from people who believe in their fake religion? Come on…
Stargate Universe at least took it’s time to establish their stories and tell them properly. Plus I actually quite liked that they didn’t have incredibly likable characters. It worked with the whole atmosphere of “these people aren’t supposed to be here”. For me, anyways.
Yeah, honestly, Universe is maybe my favourite out of the three. It was pretty unique. Great atmosphere, very little unnecessary spectacle and plot twists for the sake of plot twists.
Also, I’m always amazed and jealous when people discuss movies or series in detail, I can never remember storylines and shit properly, I’m too focused on the emotional/relational aspects
I don’t remember SGA getting absurd. But I do remember season 5 turning into “The Amazing Adventures of Dr. Jennifer Keller.” That was a bit annoying.
I think SGU might’ve done better if it was a completely new series set in its own universe, unrelated to Stargate.
I believe the completely different tone and writing from the other Stargate series is what caused many longtime fans to hate it.
Then again Syfy would’ve most likely cancel it anyway, since it’s apparently trying to get away from actual sci-fi as much as possible since the name change.
I actually quite liked Keller, but her character was definitely overused. The whole storyline of Michael wanting to capture Teyla’s baby annoyed me to no end. Michael was a great character, but he started acting way, way, waaaay too dramatic. They overdid it. And they started rushing stories. Try watching “Enemy at the gate”, “The Queen” or “Broken ties”… see if the pace of the story feels normal to you.
I mean, season 5 of Stargate Atlantis was still a very good season in general, but definitely didn’t live up to the quality of season 1 or 2. Those seasons were much better paced in my opinion and contained a lot less filler episodes.
I feel the same. Plus some of the emotional/relational moments in there are very powerful and believable, which is something you don’t find much in the other two series. You just have to watch it with open mind and not compare it to earlier Stargate shows then it’s fine I think.
I think this is the whole problem with SGU. If they didn’t want it to be compared to earlier Stargate shows then they shouldn’t have called it STARGATE in the first place. It probably would have worked on its own, but when you compare it to SG-1 and Atlantis, Universe just seems miles away from being a Stargate show (at least from the episodes I’ve watched so far).
I actually rather liked SGU on it’s own merits. Nicholas Rush was a rather interesting character to be heading things up.
Sorry for not posting this earlier.
Oh yeah. The scene where he translates a computer virus on a human built spaceship, from binary to an alien programming language. Awesome science stuff. Almost ranks up there with this scene from CSI where one of the investigators was going to program a GUI in Visual Basic to track some criminal down.
I honestly never understood why they don’t get just get one IT guy to help out with the scripts and fix idiotic things like that. Heck, even having him click on the properties on an .exe file and seeing “Copyright © Wraith Corporation” would be more believable.
By the way, if you think there are no Asgard in Stargate Atlantis… besides Hermiod, you should dig around in your grey matter a bit for the season 5 episode “The Lost Tribe”.
Real computer software is not very flashy and full of old sci-fi “ping” sounds.
The average TV viewer barely knows his way out of a computer. If movies and TV shows all showed real footage of computers and hacking, the viewers would not understand what’s happening and it would take more than just a few seconds to download a file or hack a supercomputer.
By reducing computer use on TV to big screens full of graphics and text everywhere where you can do anything by just tapping keys, you’re still getting the message across while not alienating half of your audience.
I find it’s best not to expect valid science from Hollywood science fiction. Makes it easier to enjoy.
There’s always the few exceptions to any rule.
I know why it’s done, but that doesn’t make it any less dumb. It’s like saying “oh, let’s teach our kids at school that the earth is flat, because it would be much too complicated otherwise”.
Except you don’t go to school to entertain yourself.
Honestly, I was just too busy laughing at Hermiod’s way of insulting McKay to even notice what they did there.
it’s funny how they can just look at some binary scrolling by and immediately recognize what kind of program it is
i really wish there was a proper stargate game instead of that worlds and unleashed bullshit
