STALKER Call of Pripyat

Get OL2.2 for SHoC or the AMK Sleeping bag mod for CS. That should fix your dilema.

Like eternalness said, AMK or Oblivion Lost will fix that. I dunno about AMK, but with OL, if you stay up for more than 36 hours, you start getting double vision, and if I remember right, you’ll pass out eventually. Sleeping also helps you heal.

I own both, but have not beaten, both the STALKER games.

Am I a bad person?

On second thought, don’t answer that.

You mean you didn’t shut down your computer, go to sleep, wake up, and jump right back into the game pretending your sleep was the same as that of the Marked One?

@CTID: I dont know what the AMK mod is either but OL2.2 uses the sleeping bag from it and there’s a mod for CS that allows you to use that sleeping bag. I believe the AMK mod is similar to Oblivion Lost but its only for the Russian version of STALKER.

Oh how I long for a sleeping simulator… :hmph:

Sometimes I just can’t go to sleep in real life until I’ve gone to sleep in a video game.

Almost, but I didnt shut down the computer so he starved to death. :’(

Looks like it got leaked.

I do not wish to be flamed, but I must say I did not like STALKER Clear Sky at all. I couldn’t finish it. It’s not that the game is hard, but you just need to use so many medkits it isn’t fun. Rather than taking the course off most games and giving quite a bit of health and almost no medkits STALKER gives you and tons upon tons of medkits and almost no health. If you don’t look at your health bar every 3 seconds and press the medkit button you will die very quickly. This isn’t realistic or fun.

Also, there are no auto-saves or, as far as I could tell, quicksaves so the many many times you died from not paying attention to your health you are often sent way back. I pirated this game and I still don’t think it was worth it.

WHAT!!?!?!

@Garth: It does autosave, but only when you switch areas.

Duck behind covers and look at your Geiger counter, it helps. This game is not a traditional FPS where you can just go gunslinging in the middle of the field and not being shot. You need to duck, aim and use grenades wisely.

I do do the ducking part, but not the geiger meter, I never payed a while lot of attention to it. I didn’t realize it would lower your health unless you were in really high levels of radiation. Speaking of duck and cover games, you should try Rainbow Six Vegas 2, gotta be one of my favorite games ever.

[COLOR=’#FF4040’]*Comrade Tiki enters a fission reactor, hoping it will stop his health from lowering

Grammar-nazbolism aside, after working your ass off for the right artefacts, radiation is pretty easy to dodge. But my first SoC sojourn had me constantly injecting myself in Red Forest.

Part of what makes the series fun to play is knowing that one well-placed grenade, or one enemy flanking you, will lead to immediate death. I’ve had enemy soldiers intelligently creep up behind me on several occasions while I was distracted.

If you’re upset about your last save being when you last entered the level, that’s what the Quicksave and Quickload keys are for. Yahtzee19 mentioned this. It’s a also talent (to know when you’re safe enough to quicksave), a talent I first honed playing through Call of Duty on Veteran.

Got Clear Sky the other day, hoping for another exciting foray into the Zone in its early stages.

Man, there are a lot of things that I don’t like about it.

  1. The inventory screen obscures EVERYTHING. What happened to the translucent version in SoC?

  2. They removed the movement toolbar. Now I have to open the inventory screen to check my stamina, which is stupid. Surely the character would know when he is tired or not? Being unable to see my movement noise isn’t fun either.

  3. The damage icons are puny. In SoC it was very easy to see what kind of pain you were in, wether it be bleeding, fire or radiation. Admittingly, the geiger counter is more realistic, but the bleeding icon is almost unseeable. I’d check my health several minutes after a fight to find it nearly empty! What happened to the big damage icons of old? Surely the character would notice copious blood loss quite easily.

  4. This is minor, but no less annoying. Pistol aiming. Why aren’t the iron sights used anymore? Rather than looking down the barrell of the gun the camera simply zooms in next to the pistol, giving a very gimmicky feel. I liked the iron sights!

However, the game was not without its perks. The ability to actually be part of a faction (besides Freedom) is nice, and it is now much easier to compare weapon condition and characteristics. I was also pleased that full length double barrell shotguns have been put in, and that artifacts are no longer so easy to find. But these new features, and even the other problems are made irrelavent by one startling problem.

The lag. My computer may not be high end, but it still had all the RECOMMENDED requirements. Not minimal, recommended. Despite this Clear Sky played like a jittery wreck in the base, and like a slide show out in the swamps. Turning down all the settings to minimum did nothing except make everything ugly as fuck.
However, I conceded that perhaps the huge draw distances in the swamp was putting a lot of stress of the renderer, so I preservered and hoped that things would improve in my old stomping ground near the Cordon. Alas, this was not true; the slide show effect kicked in whenever a firefight broke out.

I’m pretty pissed off by all this. Is Clear Sky really that much harder to run than SoC? I didn’t notice much graphical improvement, so what is causing all this drop in FPS?

Call of Pripyat was not leaked, it just got released in Russia. The US, German, and British versions are all due Q1 2010.

@baconeggs: Try the clear sky reclamation project, you can get it from here

Did they reskin the weapon models in that? That’s the one thing that I really didn’t like about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was that its weapon models were enormous.

I never thought they were that big, except for the scopes on the Warsaw Pact weapons.

Heh, you reminded me of some western assault-rifle which occupied a full third of the screen. Its stats were great, but… that’s no way to spelunk through hostile bunkers! I’m very sensitive about the safety of my right-hand side when it comes to mutants!

I might install STALKER again and try that mega patch fix…
