SOPA Blackout Protest

Looks like Reddit won’t be the only site to blackout on the 18th in protest of SOPA

I feel like the extradition of the student could very well be a sign of things to come if SOPA passes. I personally quite hope that Wikipedia blacks out as well since that would be a very significant thing as it would spread awareness to a very large amount of people who may not know about SOPA and it’s effects.

Discuss.

But we need the government to regulate the internet! Who else would protect us from those evil pirates?

See? Doesn’t that sound wonderful! I support this act with all my heart.

Your e-voice is dripping with sarcasm.

“…and for other purposes…”

I vote for.

For the blackout.

It needs to be brought to attention. We as a people need to be informed. If electronic and legal aggression can be countered with physical (read: visible) opposition and protest, then the privacy infringement can be finally halted.

I wish Google and Facebook did this too. That way the impact of the blackout would be really bold and global.

Google and FB participating in the blackout, with maybe a link to what the bill does and how to contact your local Congressman/Senator and a petition you can sign would basically kill SOPA.

me so dumb

I agree, this bill is focused on the ignorance of the general public, if the government and media industry keeps them complacent then they don’t question bills such as these. They need to understand what this bill means, or that it even exists.

What an idiot. He disregards every antithesis to his bill and makes pitiful excuses.

They will only be helping the SOPA by taking themselves down before the government gets to them.

Here’s some good news.

no blackout on bm forums pls

Why would taking down reddit, a site with a user base fully aware and against SOPA, help anything? Taking down gaming sites gets the same result: the users are already aware of the bill. If you don’t get some mainstream sites on board, its all pointless.

^Google’s doing it.

Fucking google.

Yes, to encourage mainstream sites to go down, the techful sites should stay up? :hmph:

The world shall be brought to it’s knees with this simple act.

What about their competition?

It’s not a matter of competition, the point is to spread awareness to people who don’t know or understand what SOPA is.
