OH GOD STFU
But you’re allowed to sell used games. There’s a difference.
You’re supporting the game retailers. Plus, that copy has to come from someone’s pocket, right? It’s not like it’s a torrent file that can be copied over and over again.
Also, the price of used games of recent releases cost almost full price (from what I’ve seen.) So, why buy a used game when you can get a brand new one for the same price/for a few more dollars.
And the industry seems fine with is, since they’re still giving GameStop new games to sell, despite GameStop LIVING on used games.
Why in the world do so many people seem to believe that other people pirating games doesn’t affect a person who chooses not to do so? It affects EVERYONE.
The point has been made multiple times: stealing games, as a principle, reduces profits. I don’t care if you personally only steal games that you wouldn’t buy, or if you buy games after you pirate them. Not everyone does this, and the more accepted piracy becomes, the more people will steal and not buy.
This equals less money for companies. I don’t care if you think it’s bad and evil that people should wish to get an actual benefit for their work, instead of wanting to put hundreds of man-hours into a final product solely because it’ll give them some mystical feeling that will somehow translate into food and rent. This isn’t how the world works. People work for a tangible benefit - and if the benefit disappears, so does the quality of the product and eventually the product itself.
I like games. I don’t want to see game quality disappear. Even if pirates today spend more than they steal, I highly doubt it’ll be like that forever. I quite don’t want to see games I enjoy disappear, or at least go down in quality, because others chose to steal.
So yes, it DOES affect me. Don’t try to tell me otherwise.
For the love of god, please shut up.
Everything you’ve said is a repeat, all the points you’re trying to make have been shot down by Naked Shooter (The irony).
Excellent counter argument. I was a fool for disagreeing with you. You’re obviously much smarter than me and have much more hot swimsuit models giving you lapdances than I do. I fail at life. I should kill myself now because you’re so much more awesome than I am.

Wasn’t aimed at you.
(I do agree with you though. Especially about the swimsuit models part.)

Thanks for the pointer captain obvious.
I’m just making sure you can comprehend a joke, since you obviously can’t comprehend the law.
Okay, it looks like this thread has slowed down to a halt.
Wow, 8 pages in one day. What a heated debate.
Piracy isn’t completely black and white as it has been stated and everybody doesn’t seem to grasp that consept.
As for games which is an area of pirating I don’t usually do but for example, some countries ban games for having explicit violence and gore, now the only way for people living in those countries to play those games is through piracy. So the question becomes would you rather have them not experience the game at all or spread the culture for those people to enjoy even if they don’t pay for it, which in this case they cannot? What if you buy a game and it has a limitation to install it only a certain number of times and you have a desktop PC and a laptop, you install it to both, you run into some hardware issues, you have to format the other because of viruses, you play the game and uninstall it and a year later you want to replay it, it doesn’t matter why but you run out of you given number of installing possibilities, do you buy the game again or lean to pirating?
I mainly download TV shows because a lot of them never air where I live and when they do they air a year, sometimes more, later and due to my work at a time when I can’t watch on a consistent basis. I buy my favorite shows later on DVD so I’m not losing any sleep over what I do.
Or just suck it up and live with it?
That’s life.
i download every show except the gun show cuz i get to watch that in the mirror every morning for free
To be honest, I find no issue with downloading TV shows. I’m paying for it anyways, I’m just getting it off the internet and saving it as well.
Can we get a mod to lock this thread before it gets anymore out of hand? Please?
can we get a mod to lock and load their uncles shotgun and shoot dead anyone i dont like
+1 to the fee jokes. They will last long after Black Mesa is released. We need to create an official meme request application. This would make the top of the list.
There are also tons of old games that you cannot even get used anymore.
There are some extremely obscure games (like Psychonauts) that are impossible to find in stores
If I download a really obscure game I feel no guilt, I’ll try it out and then try my best to find a digital distribution service (a la Steam) and purchase it legally
Piracy is a try-before-you-buy for most people, admittedly some people take it too far, but the majority are law-abiding people who just want to try something out before they spent their hard-earned money on it
You’re talking about his post regarding used games? Because I’m not.
New games are pirated just as much (probably more) as old ones. Remember Spore?
If I’m repeating points, it’s because you don’t seem to be able to adequately address them. Why don’t you tell us all right out: why should a company put effort into making a game if people are simply going to steal it instead of pay them for their work?
I’m not interested in debating things like TV shows - it’s a completely different principle, considering TV shows aren’t sold to consumers directly and individually.
You guys are stealing. Period.
I see this syndrome where someone makes themselves put this really far out logic in their head all the time. There’s no point arguing with you guys.
