So Mininova is Dead ?

Are you on repeat? Is there a stop button?

Thank you.

What’s that? Sorry, my Shit-o-Meter is going off. Detecting large amounts of bullshit in all of your posts.

sharing is not stealing, its like borrowing or recording on your sky plus, or video tapes, the vast majority of the pirating community will almost buy anything they “share” if they like it, they are also more likely to introduce others to it, thus from this simple share process the game has more fans, a bigger auidence and thus everyone as a result is happy. If you see a street performer or a busker on the street are you not more likely to give him money if he entertains you first?

I finally realised:

/thread

I’m terribly sorry that you believe that everything these days is made exclusively for the money, and that there’s no creativity alive anywhere anymore.

I like to believe that there are actually some developers left that are actually dedicated to making a great game that people can enjoy. If this world worked by your logic everything’d be shit.

What about TV series that are no longer aired, and that would cost hundreds of euros or dollars to buy on DVD or just aren’t available at all?
The only solution is piracy.

What about anything that is out of print and no longer available to you, except as an illegal download?
Again, the only solution is piracy.

Besides, there’s plenty of legal stuff available as torrents anyway.
I don’t know if it’s true, but I heard that the people who download the most also buy the most.

I’m sorry, but my mind is just screaming “Bullshit” right now. All you’re doing is swaping “stealing” with “sharing” and hope everything works out.
I don’t even know how to explain this without sounding like a child. That’s probably because this is a childish argument.

Very true

This is why mainstream music was slowly strangling the music industry, money, simon cowell couldnt give two, if its good, its if it sells, and that philosphy is terribly sad. This applies to every medium, if you make games about money, its no longer if its good, its if it sells, and thats bad news for every gamer

Wouldn’t be surpirsed, I own in excess of 4000 euros of things gaming related. Probably alot more.

Or maybe it’s just you that’s childish.

Its ok I only ever used mininova for tv shows, now I have my private tracker for that

Statistics show that people who download music spend more money on music.

I definitely fall into that category. I download a lot of music, but if I find a band I like, I’ll buy their music. I support smaller artists who are on small labels or who don’t have a label yet, but I can’t pay for all the music I enjoy, so I download some, buy some.

I agree. There are many great developers with great ideas, like, say, Pandemi… oh wait.

Money=Games
Without money, there would be no games. Got that?

Now, that doesn’t mean there isn’t any creativity created in the process of making money. I mean, Left 4 Dead sold millions of copies, and that game was pretty creative, wasn’t it?

Hm. Some may complain against this, but this is what I do: I download (some) things for free. If I like them, I buy them. If I don’t, I delete it. and believe me, I do follow this religiously. If I like it, I will not keep it on my computer illegally.

You’re turning things around.

Without games, there would be no money.

Money came after all forms of entertainment.

Oh and I like NOT to join in on getting developers like Pandemic closed.
But if you want to support big companies like EA that don’t give a crap what happens to their employees as long as the CEO’s get money, be my guest.
It’s exactly the supporting of EA that led to Pandemic being closed in the first place.

It’s a balance.

And without money to support the continuation to make games, developers/publishers won’t be “encouraged” to continue making games.

I respected your argument until this point as somewhat legit.

I hate to say this, but if all game production companies shared your “give away games for the sake of making better ones”, then there would be no companies left to make them because they would ALL GO BANKRUPT. Let me illustrate this point with a diagram

NO IN-FLOW OF MONEY + LARGE OUTFLOW OF MONEY = NO PROFIT

Obviously you have never taken any sort of economics class, because then you would have learned that we don’t live in a fantasy world that runs on smiles and happiness. Money, as cliche as it sounds, and as much as I hate to acknowledge this, ultimately makes the world go around.

You’re making things black and white.
I don’t download EVERYTHING.

I buy games, music and movies that I think deserve it.
