True that.

Especially that car that explodes. That explosion is so incredibly well made.
I’ve analyzed it more than once, and I’m a pretty experienced pixel artist, but I just don’t know how they did it. It must have taken a huge amount of time to make.
Considering the size, and the fact that pretty much every image is a redraw, I’d say that a SINGLE frame takes about a good 4 hours to make. Of course there were probably some liberties taken, so lets settle for 2/3 hours per frame. Which, with a total of what I think is 20+ frames, still would bring us to around 40-60 hours of work. For something as small as that. I wouldn’t be able to bring up the patience.

But it just shows the dedication, the heart of the project. You can see some real effort went into that. It’s without a doubt the best pixel explosion I’ve ever seen. It’s brilliant.

What happens when Dan wants to draw in iScribble?

Link? I seriously doubt any competitive video game studio would allow their artists to spend a week on a single sprite.

I think it’d take a few solid days to make the explosion sprite.

btw, explosions, but in 3D

What link?

The only thing I based that on is my 5+ years experience as a pixel artist. I can estimate that stuff well enough, and I expect my guess is pretty close. And I stand by the fact that I think that that explosion indeed took more than one day to make.

For a game that is based entirely around sprites, spending a week to create and polish one of them doesn’t sound unreasonable; it’s basically the equivalent of a character model with limited animation…and I can assure you that creating and animating characters takes a long time…

The initial explosion looks a little weird, but the smoke is good.

^ Agreed.

If you’re going for the realistic type of explosion and not the fiery kind, you should tone down the shockwave a bit. It looks a bit awkward. Smoke is nice though.
