What do you mean by thickness?

Smoothing makes the air vents look wrong. I have to find a way to solve that.

What package are you using? A chamfer operation on just those edges would do it.

I don’t understand you correctly but
I just use the subdivision operator from softimage and that’s it.
I have set the edges as hard edges but that doesn’t work.
What is a chamfer operation?
