Should I Play HL1 First?

Yes, play Half-Life first.

I also believe Half-Life is vastly superior to Half-Life 2. Half-Life 2 went in a completely different design direction than Half-Life. It felt like it was of an entirely different game series. Black Mesa is going to serve as my Half-Life 2 in terms of what I was hoping for in a game to proceed my favorite PC game of all time (sans the story follow up).

Definatly play Half Life first… this will give a base for comparison.

I personally prefer HL2 (then again I haven’t finished HL yet and only have the HL2 demo) but you should definitely play through HL first

Besides, in a few days it’s gonna be dirt cheap (11 years since HL)

I will take the risk of not giving an original answer but… PLAY HL1 FIRST!

German version is the only way to go :3 aaaaah, the wonders of gibless deaths

.>

Gibless deaths and robotic marines, amirite?

I asked this a while ago, But yeah, you should, it makes you look forward to BM a lot more.

German HL was rubbish.

I originally played HL2 first, when I heard about it, it was my type of game.
Then I played HL1.

What’s wrong with you brother? DO EET NOAW. :rage:

DO EET FOR THE NOSTALGIA, FAGGOT.

but yeah, seriously. Play HL.

Half-life alongside Warcraft were the very first PC games I ever played back in 90s and will always remain my all time favorite

I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again.

HL1 gets you access to all the various HL1 mods that have been made. So not only will it give you a fair comparison to judge Black Mesa from, but it will also give you access to a ridiculous number of high quality mods that you would never have access to if you went with HL: S or Black Mesa only.

If you play Half-Life first, then you will get used to first-person shooter controls if you’re not experienced with such games. It will make Black Mesa essentially easier, and you will understand how the original game is in comparison to the remake. The game itself is a masterpiece, for the turn of the century.

I would play Half Life first. I found Half Life on eBay for a pound sterling and when I registered it on Steam it came with all the expansions. Best pound spent EVER

I was playing Half-life, eager to finish in wonderful preparation of BM:S. Sadly my computer decided to perform a mass genocide and delete some saved game information, including my Half-life save. I’m too lazy to replay those levels, so I just decided to wait for Black Mesa. So pick whichever choice makes your heart happy, or something.

GAME PLAN!

All installed and waiting on my desktop, Just missing 1 icon.

:rage:

You could always Google game saves.

Here’s the thing… i have roughly the same game plan as Firetime up there… but (although i love the original HL) its been several years (like 8 maybe) since i’ve beaten it. Naturally over that time (even though i’ve beat it like 10 times) I will have forgotten some of it and I’m worried that if i play though it again now before BM comes out… that when it does (even though it will be remarkable) it might get boring because more or less i just played the whole story. Soo… I was gonna play it like this…
Decay => BS => Opp Force => BM => HL2 => Ep1 => Ep2
thoughts?..

Great Job!

Hamstray!

Shenanigans detected.
How’s you get Decay on your computer? That’s Ps2 only, mister.
