very well. In any case I was just saying… half-life
… i got nothing
You win!
I get friendly and fold.
My first FPS for PC! I still play it to this day, great game! (Damn I wanna play it now, to steam, tr-lalala-lalala!)
Next time I play HL it’ll be Black Mesa… hopefully, you guys got half a year to go.
:fffuuu:
im starting to forget half life, but i cant wait long release it fast or i will play the original
just play it. takes like a day.
Takes more than that if you want to find everything and break every crate, and if you never played it before…
Well it took me more than that on my first run. But then again, the thought of a headcrab jumping in my face when turning a corner in a vent scared the hell out of me, so I was going slowly in most parts :o
Oh, not on your first run. But I can do it now, going everywhere, but not taking the time to smell the roses.
yes.play it.just ignore what the others said.play it. [COLOR=‘Red’]PLAY IT
Go for it, if you’re just wanting to play HL1 without the expansions then just buy HL Source. It doesn’t improve the original that much, but the improved water and skyboxes coupled with the HD Pack certainly make it a bit easier on the eyes
If you’re also planning on playing Opposing Force and Blue Shift then you’re better of buying a retail compilation pack (like Half-Life Generations) because the STEAM versions of those expansions (especially Blue Shift) suck donkey ass!
I bought HL a little while ago when it - along with HL:OF and :BS - were only 99¢ on Steam. I didn’t think about playing it until yesterday while reading this thread. To set things straight, I’m one of those horrible gamers that in a game must at least have decent graphics and a cool storyline. Knowing that the original has pretty terrible graphics by my standards (yes yes I know they were next-gen back in '99) and the storyline is lacking (yes I know there are a few short instances of dialogue, but nothing like HL2), I decided to try it anyway, just so I could compare to Black Mesa.
After 4 or 5 hours of playing straight through yesterday, I’ve reached ‘Chapter 10: Questionable Ethics.’ I enjoyed it, but no where near as much I as I have with HL2 or it’s episodes. It still is much better then some horrible current-gen shooters I’ve played. On A Rail and I think the one after it - still with the stupid cart - was probably the most annoying part of the experience so far.
I’m going to finish the game sometime this week. If you are deciding upon playing HL1 first or not, why are you stuck on the decision? Do you want to play it for the game experience, the story, just to have played it, to compare it to BM, or another reason? Initially I didn’t want to ruin the story, but I knew basically what happened, and wanted to play the game. I did install the Diamond graphics pack mentioned earlier in this thread, which does add some nice models and such.Overall, I’m happy that I played it and that I’m going to complete it before BM is released.
Besides, I finally picked up on some jokes, along with some CSS soundbytes that I now know are from key points in HL. And I can argue on threads now about content from HL!
well i think you better wait for black mesa. you will enjoy it and then you can play again the original. if you play the original first you will only enjoy graphics in black mesa. that’s my opinion
On a rail wasn’t too bad the second time I played through… but I remember going in circles a lot on my first run
I wonder how much On A Rail has changed. That was my least favorite level. I’m hoping that the flow has improved this time around.
But if you haven’t played HL1 yet, I would certainly do it now. If you wait until the mod is released, going back and playing HL1 will probably feel silly. But whether you play it now or later, everybody should play it
I think that On a Rail must be the least loved chapter in the whole Half-Life saga
i love on a rail .
i had the highest fps there .’(
no, really, that was a nice chapter, let it be more dark and scary, or place there more enemies - and you’ll get an another exiting chapter of the greatest game .)
Well, it was made by VALVe so even though it’s not their best work it’s still a good level. Personally I disliked the monotony of it, ride the tram, get off the tram and shoot some bad guys, rinse and repeat.
You don’t even need the tram after the first 15% of On a Rail.
I think that’s a pretty optimistic percentage, probably more like 50% if you ask me, only in the latter part can you go free.
It’s somewhat hard to stay on the side of the corridor and not hit the electric middle of the track when Gordon runs about 300mph, lmao.
