Shepard VS. Freeman

Who is better and why? I’m sure this question has been asked before somewhere but it’s still one of the major debates in the series. And what’s with the fascination with Shepard? It almost seems like he’s more preferred than Gordon.

He isn’t “more preferred” than Gordon. It’s just that whenever he’s mentioned it leads into endless debating about stupid shit, so trolls like to bring him up whenever they get the chance.

Why would you even ask that question?

Gordon because I haven’t played much of Opposing Force.

Well I would say Shepard, but I really didn’t like the end of Mass Effect 3 so…

Not sure if serious…

Yeah that kinda stumbled me too, but it’s Shephard not Shepard, luner.

Calhoun smash

Shepard ofc ! Freeman is just a souless pair of arms doing what he is told.

Wait, you mean Shepard from OF ? Oh.

Shephard, Shepard

Tomatoe, Tomatoe

(that second “tomatoe” was pronounced differently than the first)

Shephard comes in to kill freeman, ends up solving similar problems but in a different manner, spends a shorter time at BM than freeman, and defeats a race of Aliens that didn’t require as much work as the Nihilianth and are non-existant according to Half-Life canon, then gets put in stasis - forever.

I think we know who’s better.

Your mom, because she can do this swirly thing with her…

But I kid. Really just think what you can do with a crowbar or a pipe wrench.
You can beat a prostitute with both. But can you pry open a locked door with a wrench? how about using a wrench to hook and throw someone by the neck? Does a wrench have a sharp edge that can be used to cut into a persons ribcage? I think you know the answer now.

Gordon, because he had less combat training, overcame larger obstacles, and had that badass ponytail.

If Gordon had run into Shep, Gordon likely would have won. Sure, in OP4 the HECU had PCVs, instead of standard armored vests, but they left a lot of exposed flesh. Gordon was fully armored, and may or may not have had a helmet.

The ponytail was so awesome it ordered Valve to retcon it immediately after Half-Life’s launch, considering them ‘beneath’ it.

The ponytail was actually controlling gordon all along

But Shephard did have to combat those assholes with the plasma bug gun.

I hated these guys. There’s one part of the game when you have to go up a small elevator and one of these is at the top. I always get to that part of the game with around 50HP, so it’s a nightmare to get through.

The Pit Drones were also quite annoying.

I remember when you first meet them and they’re running around in the vents above you. A nice little touch.

That vent seen scared the crap out of me…

Remember these big-ass fuckers?

And where is Barney, he’s helped Gordon out of so many sticky situations. Barney would beat both of them w/o even trying.

Let’s See:

Blue Shift Goes to work. Almost gets killed from an elevator. Climbs through the canals. Kills a few guys. Goes to Xen for like 2 min. Then escapes.

Half-Life 2: Scares the crap out of Freeman. Leaves Freeman. Comes back. Goes away. Comes back. Then lets you go up the Citadel alone.

Episode 1: Shows up at the end and lets YOU escort everyone through a bunch of stupid soldiers and manhacks. Gets on a train. And lets you handle the striders all by yourself.

Episode 2: Causes a bunch of debate around the fact that he may or may not be alive. Freaks people out even more when he supposedly says “Good job Gordon!”

Main Point: Barney is very complex. He’s boring, entertaining, a pain, and a mystery. But he’s still badass.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
