No. Stalker is not a good game. Go buy it anyway.
nice fail there.
And although I don’t really like how the open-world-ness is realized in the stalker games they’re still very decent games. So, yes, get them.
[EDIT] @ eternalness below / : duh!
If it were on the same page my post woulda been right below Kairouseki’s.
I just finished SoC Complete (with the “most real” ending) and was planning on starting CoP without waiting for the Complete mod because I’ve heard it’s just fine without it. Anyways, I just wanted to see if anyone has played Clear Sky (with or without the Complete mod) and what your thoughts on it were, so I can get an idea if I want to get it and play it after CoP.
and your playing it in the wrong order?
play Clear sky, its the prequel, and half of it, your following Strelok.
Its good
Its kind of everything before it went to hell.
SoC/Cs/CoP
I bought a copy of STALKER a few years back, but never got the chance to play it.
Stares at jambo

I hope you’re not implying that CoP was bad, and you’re just referring to the events after CS’s ending.
Those bloodsuckers still scare the shit out of me…
You misunderstood me obviously.
The events in the game. SoC is much darker as we know it.
Was playing through CoP today and just began to wish that you could pick stuff up similar to how it is in HL2. Maybe for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2…
Does anyone know of a way to turn off the head bobbing for CoP? I read somewhere that the SoC fix would work for CoP too but it didn’t. I have the steam version.
I never noticed any game-breaking headbob in Call of Pripyat. The Steam version of SoC, though… It’s the only thing in any game that’s ever given me motion sickness. I got the fix for it, though.
It isn’t quite so bad as SoC’s headbob, but my viewpoint is, if I don’t notice it in real life, I shouldn’t notice it in video games either. Motion blur, headbob, HDR, brown…ness - it should only be lightly dabbed in there to give a nice little realistic touch. It’s like CG in movies - if you say, “Wow, look at that awesome CG”, then the digital artists have failed at their job. What’s annoying is that a lot of developers don’t think that way; in fact, they think the opposite, that they have to shove these effects in your face so you know their game is ‘real’ and ‘gritty’. I mean, I’m already suspending my disbelief when I choose to play a video game, I don’t need to be convinced it’s real with all these overdone ‘realistic’ visual effects that get in the way of playing the game. Focusing on ‘realism’ is a stupid way to make up for lackluster storytelling or poorly designed game mechanics. (And that’s not to say Stalker is bad, I just don’t like that mentality.) /rant
So anyhow, aside from that conscious aspect of it…I dunno, I just can’t play it. It’s like I move and I feel like I can’t see where I’m going or what’s happening because my screen is bouncing too much. Maybe I’m just sensitive to it, but I can’t take it. I’m sure there must be a way to disable it somewhere. I’ll do some digging…
I never noticed CoP having much head bob. I guess I’m used to it as I never have any problem watching movies that make others motion sick.
With a bit of luck, stalker 2 will be very pretty.
In case anyone cared to know, I found out that the SoC/CS method of adjusting the headbob with the effectors.ltx file also works for CoP. Turns out I had just misnamed one of the folders as “config” instead of “configs”. Cranked the headbob way down and am quite satisfied. Now its mostly just the 2D bullet casings that are bothering me, but thats nowhere near as big a deal to me.
Wow I was never fazed by Stalker headbob. To me it gave you the feel of a very steady marching pace of a Zone traveller. Then again I’m used to the extremes of bobbing, such as that in Deus Ex. JC Denton: World’s most unbalanced man.
