Retro Gaming

As time passes by, so does the increasing development of video games in every genre and field of expertise. But I still remember the games that were fun in ways innovative during their time.

The games that I enjoyed:

Super Mario Bros.
Duck Hunt
Harvest Moon
Half-Life
Quake
Doom

and etc.

Share the games that you’ve played in the past, and why you thought they were awfully fun.

DAVE
Disney’s Alladin. 2-D
Disney’s Lion King 2-D
Wolfenstein 3D
Black and White
Rayman
Red Alert
Age Of Empires 1, 2 and 3
Sim City 3000 Unlimited
Half-Life

and of course…ROAD RASH.

Half-Life. Obvious, really.

Master of Orion II. Perfected the space 4X genre and has never been bettered (although it did have some micromanagement issues, admittedly).

Freespace (1/2). Brilliant space dogfighting combat, with just enough story to keep it interesting without getting in the way of pure action.

Thief (1, especially 2, and to a lesser extent 3). Best games ever. Involving storyline; rich, immersive world; unique gameplay; quirky dark humour; great replayability with extra objectives on harder difficulty levels… One of the few series of games I’d rate on the same level as the HL series.

Myst (1 thru 4, 5 was a bit pants). Really nice, detailed stories; clever logical puzzles; gorgeous audio and visuals, even back in 1994. Can’t fault a game that spurred adoption of an entire storage format.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. There are doubtless more.

Quake
Half-life
Abes odyssey/exodus
Red Alert
GTA
Driver
Operation flashpoint
and like…560973450348534 more

Fallout 1
Zelda 64 (or just Zelda in general)
Super Mario Anything
Wolfenstein 3D
Mega Man 2
Bionic Commando (okay, I only played the remake on XBLA. But it’s the same thing but with better graphics, bosses, and a new and more epic final level. It’s an amazing game either way.)
Punch Out! (The good ol’ NES/VC version. Not the $50 Wii copy and paste job)
Duke Nukem 3D
DOOM

Retro gaming FTW!

TIE Fighter (though I really don’t consider it that retro).

Monkey Island 1-3

Yes! As soon as I saw the tread title, I thought, “Monkey Island”

Monkey Island 1-3
Space Quest 4 and 5
Civilization 1-3 and CTP
Beneath a Steel Sky
Quake 1-3
Doom 1 or 2

I particularly like the MI and Civ series.

Quake 2 was the first game I ever played, when I was 6. It seemed so much more impressive then.

Space Quest IV was also among the first games I ever played.

There is a whole bunch more, but I lost my games archive, and I can’t remember titles atm.
Goes to show that the games above actually stuck in my mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

Lemmings
The Incredible Machine

ah yes. The incredible machine. I spent hours completing those puzzles when I was a kid…it really challenged my brain in the later puzzles.

Half Life. Period. That’s it. Only one. It rocks. That’s it. Awesomeness.
