Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition PC

Wesker’s organization mainly came to steal the Plaga virus/parasite

just as umbrella did with in africa where they stole the Progenitor plant to create their virus

and sure Krauser’s character wasnt expanded upon until Darkside Chronicles, but RE4 had more horror into it than RE5 (i love feeling horrified being alone in a room with the chainsaw guys or any other powerful enemy with fatal 1-hit kill attacks), and that feeling that you probally dont have enough ammo to kill the boss also made the player feel tense

and the merchant was gold

It’s really sad that when Capcom decides to re-release a great game like RE4, whose original port to the PC was a mess, that they can’t equal or exceed the graphics quality attained by community mods, considering the wealth of resources at their disposal. It’s a great missed opportunity on their part and wreaks of another cash grab.

It’s an HD Remaster not a complete remake on a new engine. All they need to do is up the resolution, clean up a few graphical elements like the hud, improve the control scheme, add some more settings, upscale the videos and it call it a day.

For most people that’s enough as that means they’re gonna get a great old game that was brought up to modern standards. Anything more than that is not an obligation and honestly, I’d rather have the game look the way it did originally just with more resolution, AA, AF and better framerate. A lot of the time, even official high-resolution texture packs tend to mess up with the original look of the game.

Now, it’s possible this may support mods, as it’s still based on the original port’s engine, so if you want better graphics, that may be still a possibility.

Which would be the most important, since I’ve heard that the original PC port didn’t support mouselook.

Yeah, you had to use the arrow keys to do that by default. There was a mod that emulated arrow inputs with the mouse but it was still far from ideal.

This one has full, native mouse support with sensitivity, inversion and acceleration settings.

Oh and welcome back.

About gameplay, why do people even complain about being unable to move&shoot simultaneously? I like it that way, it’s more challenging and kinda of a trademark of the series. Not that I had any problems with RE6’s controls tho.
Call me weirdo, but too much mobility makes 3rd person games a bit unlikeable for me, too distracting.

I’m pretty sure that aspect will stay unchanged but it would be hilarious if they added RE6 style controls as an option. The butthurt from hardcore veterans would be delicious.

The game would become too easy.

Could be solved with a harder difficulty. More enemies and they’re harder to kill. Less ammo and health items. Less money to use on the merchant. Less weapon upgrades.

Of course this is just me talking. Personally I don’t want it either but I wouldn’t mind if they did.

I’ve always wondered what kind of engine the game uses, was it ever named? It’s a technical masterpiece, it looks phenomenal for its age and it was ahead compared to most games then, just like HL2.

It’s a proprietary engine but I think it may be based off RenderWare.

I know it’d only anger purists, but apart from the obvious (better controls, mouselook and fixed QTEs), all I want out of this is the ability to buy even just a tiny bit of ammo from the Merchant. At one point I had to restart the whole fucking game because the only place to go was a room full of monks with shields and maces and all I had was a Red9, a Riot Gun and two pistol rounds. Don’t ask about saves; I was foolish enough to only ever use one saveslot.

Really? The REmake of RE1 and RE0 were using Unreal Engine 2, if I remember rightly. Perhaps it was an offshoot of that?

UE2? Are you sure?

Weird, the game’s articles used to say that REmake and RE0 were both UE2, but those references were removed. Odd…

There was a post by a Capcom person on the Steam forums talking about what the graphics stuff is like.

There’s an option to switch between standard and HD textures, resolutions above 1080p are allowed but 1080p is the highest that was officially tested (although the guy posting said that 1200p, 1440p, and 1600p worked well for him, support for 16:10 but no mention or whether or not there will be letterboxing), up to 8x msaa, low/med/high shadow option, and a motion blur option. Apparently there are more in a config file somewhere. All cutscenes are rendered in engine except for, like someone guessed earlier, the Separate Ways part.

He also mentions a “fun” graphics option that he didn’t elaborate on. I wonder what that could be.

Maybe the fun option switches to the graphical quality of the original unpatched port, where the game had literally no lighting. It was fullbright. I kid you not.

Maybe it enables path tracing :fffuuu:

REmake and RE0 aren’t on Unreal 2 engine, but Unreal 2.5

wii version had high precision aiming mode (where the wii sensor gimmick actually benefited the gameplay), and that made the wii version imo the superior port

if the pc has mouse aiming, then it will pretty much stack up/exceed wii version
