Recommend Me a Keyboard

I bought a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard (model 920-something-something-something; it’s not exactly clear) to use with my new desktop. I’ve discovered recently that on this model of keyboard, Shift+W+Space can’t all be held at once. So, no jumping while sprinting; kind of a big deal. I’m going to return this keyboard, and I was wondering whether the forumites here had any recommendations for a better one. I’m looking for a low-profile keyboard, similar to a laptop keyboard or (shudder) a standard Apple keyboard. I use the Apple keyboard at work, and I actually really like the feel of it. Illuminated keys are a plus, but not necessary. Also, price is not necessarily an obstacle. Lob out your suggestions and I’ll decide later whether the price is going to be prohibitive.

Thanks all.

It seems that the problem with the one that you had was that the shift key was the size of any other key. Just make sure you get one with a large shift key and you should be fine. I just bought the cheapest keyboard I could find and am happy with it.

The shift key is not the issue. The issue is that the keyboard literally cannot register that combination of keys when they’re pressed all at once. It’s a common complaint with this keyboard, and one that I wished I’d seen before I bought it.

Oh so it’s not that the placement makes it impossible to press them all at once but that the keyboard just doesn’t register it. That’s weird.

saitek make some cool gaming keyboards, and I don’t think they’re too pricey.

I have a Cyborg V5 which is decent. A common complaint is that the space bar sticks. Mine stuck for a few days, but I kept popping it out and putting it back in, and the surface that stuck got worn down enough that it no longer sticks.

My only complaint other than the sticking space bar, is that there are no keys to control media. I just want to be able to switch to the next track or repeat the track I just heard without tabbing out :frowning:

I like the feel of the keyboard, and the lighting had 3 levels. (full, half, off) It contrasts with my mouse and tower having blue lights, but oh well :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: it’s a Saitek, like Siggs mentioned. It was too pricey on Newegg, but I got it for a good deal on eBay.

I took the wrist support off.

Yeah, there are actually quite a few people in reviews who have accused Logitech of intentionally disabling that combination to scam users into buying their more expensive gaming keyboards. It doesn’t sound all that far-fetched when you consider how bizarre that particular lack of functionality is. EDIT: This was @Kairouseki

I’ll add that I’ve been looking at the i-rocks KR-6402-BK, which is essentially a third-party knockoff of the Apple keyboard for Windows users. (I like the feel of the Apple keyboard that much.) I doubt if anyone has any experience with this board, but if you do, I’d appreciate your feedback. There isn’t much information about it out there.

I’ve found that really cheap microsoft keyboards are awesome. Even their cheap wireless keyboards are good for gaming.

When it comes to straight out gaming keyboards, I’d have to go with seitek like siggs said.

I’m actually not looking specifically for a gaming keyboard; I tend to think that they’re gaudy and awful looking. I’m really just looking for a keyboard that won’t cripple my gaming like this Logitech one has. :hmph:

Sorry for suggesting a gaming keyboard for you to game on. Here is a link to help you.

I’m not attacking anyone’s preferences. And frankly, I don’t think it’s that unusual to ask for opinions from a trusted source. I’ve been googling, trust me.

Halo themed xbox360 wireless controller for windows.

Well if you’re not looking for fancy, the one I have is nice. Logitech cheap-ass keyboard, but the multiple keys thing works, it has media player controls you can use from ingame, it’s not dampened so it can clack a bit, but it was the cheapest one I could find

one second link. If you can’t get it anymore, i guess equivalent model

I realise now it’s not illuminated, which may bother some, but it’s okay for me.

I hadn’t bothered to test it out on my keyboard, but apparently the Cyborg V5 doesn’t let you push Shift + W + Spacebar either. I know you’re not considering it though, geek.

It’s not a huge deal I guess. Not until I go to play HL2 again, anyway :fffuuu:

Edit: the game I tested it on didn’t like the key combo. I tried it later when I was playing Oblivion, and it worked fine.

Love the A4Tech X7 G800, cheap and cheerfull, yet quite sturdy and very responsive : )

My Logitech G110 works great, the keys feel real nice. It’s really just a G15 without the stupidly expensive LCD screen, you can probably grab one for under $70 now. It doesn’t really feel like one of those overkill gaming keyboards, but it doesn’t feel cheap either

I have the logitech G19 and its awesome. The screen is a bit of a gimmick though, so i’d go with the G110 is it? The updated G11 that has no screen. They are nice man.

Razer Lycosa. Best on the market.

i bought a microsoft sidewinder x4 for its n-key roll over/ anti-ghosting capability (which seems to be your issue)

I’m currently using this MS keyboard.

After binding Shift to crouch I can proudly assure you that Shift + W + Spacebar fully works. I’m pretty sure the cheaper wired models around $10 US will work too, because I’ve owned a few of them and to my recollection I’ve never had a problem in-game.
