Rap/Hip-Hop vs. Rock/Metal

What do you listen to and why?

I’m predominantly a metalhead, but I also listen to GOOD rap and hip-hop. Yes, I only listen to GOOD hip-hop. That means I don’t always listen to songs about fucking the ho or drinking till you die. I listen to rap that actually means something.

Hell, a lot of the rock/metal groups I love (Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, and Linkin Park to name a small few), rap a whole bunch. But they rap about worthwhile topics. Not about their latest bling.

But since hip-hop and rap has gone mainstream, most artists think they can only rap in this small spectrum of sex, partying, and drinking to be successful, and the sad fact is that they are right. The current generation has been spoonfed t…his shitty new trend in every faucet of their existence, until they only enjoy this small band of music. It’s a sad new trend. Now it’s gotten to a point where most rap/hip-hop songs (those that are mainstream and most accessible, at least) sound exactly the same, or convey the same message. Listen to one, listen to them all…it seems the only way to listen to good hip-hop is to go with the obscure artists.

With metal and rock, you don’t really have that problem. Sure, there are a few shitty exceptions that bow to the mainstream quagmire (Hollywood Undead, for one), but for the most part, rock and metal bands only care about making the best music possible with the best intended meanings. Screaming about a heartbreak or anger, or singing gently about a pleasure conveys a lot more meaning than rapping or “singing” with autotune about how drunk you get every day and how awesome it is.

EDIT: Yeah, I know there are other genres that aren’t covered by the title (around 1,000,000 to be exact). If you like something that isn’t rock or hip-hop, feel free to talk about that, as well.

What about Electronic music? Classic music? Tango? Jazz?

@OP: tl;dr
@title: rock/metal
@Imonfire: meh

Oh yeah I’m so a massive faggot for posting before you edited.

everything sucks in its own special way
so i just listen to really shitty stuff everyone else shuns

no seriously

I edited literally a second after posting.

And I posted during that second.

Protip: We can see when people post and edit.

Not if they edit within the two or three minutes following the post.

Which implies you posted within two or three minutes of his post.

Which brings the eventuality that I may have posted right before he edited, therefore causing me not to see his edit.

Everything but rap and country.
Jazz, classical, techno, rock, metal. Its all good.

that doesn’t exactly constitute everything you know

I like at least three or four aspects of all genres music, though I mostly listen to rap and country.

Rock is mostly what I listen to. I don’t really like heavy rock/metal very much though there are some exceptions. I will listen to some rap/hip-hop if I like it but there’s nothing that comes to mind immediately.

Country is good as well. I’ve grown accustomed to it since my dad listens to it a lot.

I’d listen to more jazz but I can’t find the radio station that used to be around.

I also listen to classical music every once in awhile.

My favorite genres are instrumental rock, dance, jazz and…classical (shut up).

I’m a huge metal head, although I love jazz, classical, acoustic stuff as well, i hate radio music and all the mainstream bullshit out today.
