One of the whole reasons the PSP GO flopped was that you couldnt use UMD’s. This is the same thing.
um… no.
This has a dedicated game slot like the DS does.
I am worried about one thing, as I am fairly sure we all are if we are considering buying one. That is battery life. We all know how much of a problem that is for anything of significant power that is handheld…and this certainly has significant power.
With two quad cores in the thing it better have cpu/gpu scaling but even that wont help play time, just homescreen/standby times.
it will probably come equipped with a 6 cell 48000mAh laptop battery, since the original actually had good battery life.
Read somewhere that the PSP2 will be able to play the ps1 games from the PSN? If so then this thing will go up in my book, but barely.
Not gonna say more, as I don’t know enough about the game selections that this PSP is gonna have at release.
psp1 can play ps1 games
PSP1 can play PS1 games from the original ps1 CD’s if you have custom firmware.
And there is no excuse not to have CFW now that its so easy to sign PSP software, and you can put cfw on even the latest official firmware.
EDIT: and afaik it is perfectly legal in the USA, but don’t quote me on this
This.
I’ll probably get it anyway. I’m such a corporate whore.
@russilker still legal grey area. CFW/jailbreaking is now legal on phones but on gaming counsels there is no definitive yes or no. There has been a bunch of rabble from game companies and attempted legal action against CFW but has never gone to a final court decision. The Geohot case in monumental in that aspect. If this ever goes to court it will for once and for all mark the US courts ruling on counsel modification. (and a court ruling is about as good as blanket law in the us legal system with the exception being an appeal.)
I hope George doesn’t have to do time in jail, jailbreaking would sound so ironic after that.
When I first heard about this, I was excited. When I started watching videos, I had a 30 minute nerdgasm.
Indeed.
I’ll probably end up getting one of these and a 3DS close to their launch dates. If I can use my (few) PSN purchased games on here, it’d be a nice bonus.
(I’d be happy going with one over the other, but MML3 and OoT remake = 3DS > PSP2, I’m still on the fence)
I find it extremely strange that the 3DS is getting a version of Snake Eater while the PSP2 isn’t. It is an odd concept that a series which is currently a very Sony based affair is getting released on the 3DS. I suppose most people will have already played Snake Eater if they are fans of the series, and this is just an attempt to get new fans. It also fits the 3DS hardware more, as the 3DS is much closer to PS2 tech than PS3 while the PSP2 is the opposite. Though I can’t say I would mind a graphically updated Snake Eater!
The problem with Snake Eater on the 3DS is the camera is going to be terrible without that second analog stick/nub/whatever. Assuming they went with the Subsistence version of the game.
And it would be stupid not to.
Though being able to select camo with the bottom screen would fix my main gripe with the PS2 version.
it will probably have worse than ps2 graphics
you still need at least a core 2 duo at 3Ghz and a dx10 card to emulate most ps2 games.
I heard that the “MGS3” on the 3DS was a tech demo only. It could potentially be ported, but weren’t they going to make a 3DS exclusive project?
Port != Emulation
They do have trailers and screenshots you know.

Without the 3D effects of course.
Did you forget they can use the touch screen as a second analog?
