PSN Info Compromised.

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/26/update-on-playstation-network-and-qriocity/

Looks like if you have a PSN account your info is not so private any more :meh:

I’m so glad I never made a PSN account, as soon as I heard about Anonymous targeting Sony I knew the accounts would get leaked.

As much as I wish death upon the hackers, Sony is also to blame for not encrypting the personal information on PSN accounts.

You should never put too much confidence on your own software’s security.

Frankly I’m glad that Sony’s network got compromised. Maybe someone will have the balls to sue them now for all the times that they have screwed over there customers. And maybe get back at them for what they did to Geohot

Just jacked Jhonen Vasquez’ account

How did Sony screw over their consumers? By removing OtherOS? Big fucking deal. It shouldn’t have had it in the first place. A console is for gaming. If you want Linux, get a proper computer.

Besides, it was a security risk, so the best option was to just remove it.

Geohot using that as an excuse was bullshit. Anyone would try to hack it anyway.

Maybe Sony shouldn’t have done anything legally-wise but geohot should’ve kept his mouth shut. Leave the author of the hack anonymous.

Geohot’s giant ego ended up screwing Sony more than the hack itself.

You don’t even need a proper computer for linux, if you work hard enough you can get that shit to run on anything. And yes we all know the “hurr I want linux” is just bs so that people can pirate games or hack them.

Anyways I hope Anon fucks off with the hacking soon because I’ve got some buddies who are PS3 gamers I want to test the cross platform portal 2 with.

^same.
Been itching to try what happens when the host goes command console.

Why would you want all that "BRING BACK NNY AND ZIMKJAHSLDKJGJHGASLJFG"spam?

I was perfectly content to watch this whole saga unfold from the sidelines, since everyone involved was such a douche. Sony were douches for removing a feature that came with the console, then trying to strongarm consumers to their will with legal might. The hackers were douches for obvious reasons. I didn’t have a douche in the race.

But now that a couple million consumers just got fucked over hard – this sucks.

Let me take you back to when it all started in 2005.

Sony BMG records releases a new album, So i go ahead and decide to support the author and buy it.

When I insert it into my computer so I can copy it to my iTunes, and put it on my iPod, it starts installing software. Well that weird I thought. But anyways, after the software installs, I can no longer rip audio CD’d to my computer. Sony’s new “piracy protection” is actually a rootkit virus, that you CANNOT uninstall, It DID NOT tell you that it was installing a rootkit in the EULA of the CD. Sony deliberately installed Viruses on every computer that had this CD put inside of it.

2010 Sony ILLEGALLY removes OtherOS from the Playstation 3 video game console. The exploit in the OtherOS feature, would NOT have allowed any hacker to remotely hack into the device. You would have to have physical contact with the console to exploit the hypervisor. Sony fears piracy, so they remove the feature entirely.

2011

Sony bans EVERYONE from PSN who “hacks” there game console. Saying that “its not really your console, were just letting you borrow it” I have every right to run homebrewed software on my PS3 that I bought, And own. [COLOR=‘Red’]Now if I am caught cheating/pirating games on PSN then I agree, they should be banned. But for legitiment people like myself that only want to backup games to have backups incase my copy of a game broke. Then they had no right to ban me (which they didn’t btw :stuck_out_tongue: )

What if i cant afford both? I can only afford one? then i would have bought a PS3.But then Sony removed it so now I only have one? And now i cant keep my job because i dont have a computer? Sony ILLEGALLY removed an ADVERTISED feature. which is AGAINST THE LAW!!!

What a bunch of bullshit excuses.

Sony BMG is a completely different division from Sony Computer Entertainment. That’s like saying the Office software division from Microsoft should be as responsible for the RROD on the 360 as they are for when a terrible exploit arises on their Office software.

Sony as a company has the right to protect their investment from illegal tampering even if that means screwing a few users over a feature that only a few used anyway. OtherOS was that feature and like I said, that feature shouldn’t even have been there in the first place. Sony should’ve know better before allowing users to use such an exploitable and open OS such as Linux on a closed system such as the PS3.

BTW, Microsoft also bans people who hack the 360. How come no one is stirring shit at Microsoft over that?

Sure Sony overreacted a bit and should have encrypted user data in the first place but honestly, if you don’t think that Anonymous’ reaction at Sony over their reactions at the ILLEGAL TAMPERING OF THEIR CLOSED HARDWARE is not overly exaggerated and is affecting more users than Sony ever affected before, then you clearly have no common sense.

You may find this relevant.

I’m glad I never put my CC details in there.

Also, Sony should have made this outage and reworking on the network as soon as the hacks were out.

They know better than anyone else how insecure the PSN framework is and how these hacks would only allow the hackers to dig deeper and deeper into their shit.

But like any douchebag criminals, the hackers stole the user’s info and then make Sony look like the real criminal here.

Just because the first cars had no security features, it doesn’t make the first car thieves any less innocent.

Going after Sony is one thing, but its users? They are going way too far. But I suppose this should be expected when people get too much power… they tend to abuse it.

I’m not really afraid, I don’t have any credit card information on there or anything volatile.

Wow, at first there was a part of me that supported the hackers. I thought hey yea, show Sony that while they can use their legal muscle to push consumers around you show Sony you can use your technical muscle to shove sony back. Now Anon stole money from the people they sought to PROTECT from INJUSTICE. Anon hackers just ruined any chance at a claim of “doing the right thing”.

They were never “doing the right thing”.

What the fuck? My last name is Vasquez and my first name is Jonathan!

this thread is full of herp and derp combined into a perfect mixture of full blown fucking retarded.

I wasn’t saying they were, but that doesn’t mean they can’t convict some people that it was. The concept of what is ethical correct varies based on your beliefs so it is possible that despite being illegal they may have still had some people who believed that it was a good thing to do. Now by attacking the people they sought to protect I am pretty sure no matter what an individual considers wrong and right no one will sympathize with their cause.

Nah I’m sure the xbox fanboys still will. After all Sony is a constant thorn in Xbox’s eyes. Xbox fanboys see them self as the superior in the console war and thus will take anychance they can to get rid of the playstation once and for all.
