PS3 VS Xbox 360

I loled hard.

I loled again, but not as hard.

Why? It’s not like when HD-DVD lost the format war all HD-DVDs and players exploded world wide. They still work, in full 1080P with wonderful AC3 and DTS. Plus when it crashed I was able to get heaps of movies for $3-$5. I got the Bourne set for $12, 5 Harry Potter films for $20, the BBC’s Planet Earth for $25 and a whole bunch more.

But they aren’t making any more HD-DVDs. Besides the fact that you need to purchase an add-on HDDVD player for the 360 (no longer made), it doesnt support it natively.

And having MKVs doesnt mean anything, its just a replacement for what the PS3 can already do. Why go through the bother of transcoding HD movies for the 360 when u can watch an HD movie on one of the best bluray players on the market just by popping the disc in on the PS3?

Unfortunately Microsoft failed with the 360 when compared to the ps3.

as an audiophile, i know that computers, while they may be able to handle the complex audio signal, they fail spectacularly at outputting it. A-grade audio equipment is far superior at reproducing audio signals. when it comes to audio, the older the technology, the better the sound. Generally

but lets not get into that here…

yada yada yada, whatever fanboy.
jk, you know I love ya.

As with any stupid “Gaming Platform vs Gaming Platform” debate, all it boils down to is personal taste and opinion.

XBox 360 is good because all my friends play on it and Halo is exclusive to the platform (again, personal opinion and taste.) The PS3 is good because the internet is free and there are many high quality exclusives for it. To say that the PS3 is “catching up” is retarded. It caught up as soon as MGS4 was released and has only gotten better since thanks to Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, and coming soon Heavy Rain and God of War 3.

the PS3 comes with a Super Audio CD Player, standard
i dont know how many audiophiles are out there, but thats a BIG DEAL. The Logo is kinda hard to notice

I originally liked the 360 a lot better… Although now I can see why the PS3 can be good as well. They both have different styles of games. I say the Wii is the best (kidding).

Technically, when you got the above (which you are bound to get at least once if you are a heavy gamer) the XBOX 360 has no games. Or movies. Or music. Or LIVE. Or anything.

But hey, it will always have a place in my heart as “most expensive brick”.
(that is, after any Mac)[/SIZE]

The xbox has no games? what? It is of my understanding that the X360 has a bigger library of games.

Umm actually, some people would disagree with that.

And either the hotlink didnt work, or you completely failed to see the picture of the RRoD in my above post. Which, when the 360 has it, renders it useless. AKA “no games” with the RRoD. And the PS3 is much better built, does not have nearly as many issues as 360.

Buttons on PS3 = symbols (X, O, square, triangle?)
symbols = children
game system made by adults
children = adults
children + adults = autism

It’s SCIENCE :freeman:

I’m hesitating between No and Fuck No.

Seriously the original Playstation Dualshock controller(unchanged in the ps2 and ps3) is the single most advanced piece of technology to ever see the light of day.

What the fuck are you smoking?

PS3 Pros: Stronger CPU, BluRay Drive, Standardized Harddrive, Motion controller support, Wifi Included, Free Online Support, extra features when using PSP, Hardware Backwards Compatability(Old models only), More fully exclusive games(160)

PS3 Cons: Weaker Online Support, Weaker GPU, ZERO backwards Compatibility(Current models), Less Total Games(558)

360 Pros: Cheaper, Better Online Support, More Ergonomic controller, Software Backwards Compatibility(ALL models), More CONSOLE exclusive games(118+74Console=192), More Total Games(736)

360 Cons: Weaker CPU, Paid Online Support, Nonstandardized Hard Drive, Wifi costs extra, Less Fully Exclusive Games(118)

The reason why I list “Cheaper” as a 360 Pro, but not “More Expensive” as a PS3 Con is because only the 360 Arcade version that has no hard drive is cheaper. The Elite is about the same price as PS3 120GB, and the Elite 250GB is actually a little more than the PS3 250GB but also includes a free game or something.

While some might say that the stronger GPU of the 360 makes it the better gaming system, both are actually comparable to each other in terms of overall strength, but because of CPU/GPU differences it means that any game designed to capitalize on the strengths of one system can’t just port straight to the other system. Since 360 managed to release first, developers designed their games to take advantage of a stronger GPU, and thus ports to the PS3 take a heavy hit. Games designed exclusively for PS3, and therefor use the stronger CPU to make up for the weaker GPU, generally stand toe to toe graphically with 360s best.

So basically it comes down to this: If you use your PC for gaming and don’t already have a bluray player, PS3 wins hands down. If the console you choose will be your primary gaming system OR you already have a Bluray player, then it depends which one has the specific exclusive games you’re more interested in, but if both then 360 wins.

The first smart non-fanboy comparsion on this thread.

I tip my hat to you good sir.

Is that you on your avatar? It sure seems like it.

Tell me, what EXACTLY is the difference between blu-ray and HD-DVD?

Honestly there are a few differences, but nothing spectacular. A major one being that Sony can charge royalties to anyone they want with this format. Another one being that Blu-Ray has a slightly higher capacity.

That’s about it.
