Prototype

When I wanted to take them out, I’d let them chase me onto a roof then I’d just Critical Pain them.

I never realised until completing the game, but you can BODY SURF super soldiers. That’s too cool for words.

^

:’(

I still prefer critical pain, because if you line it up right you can take out 2 at once and still have room for a couple more devastators if you don’t get damaged.

I just finished the game, and I must say the final boss was lacking. I just clawed him to death using the Graveyard devastator once. I found the fight with Greene much harder (Those damn green orbs!) and more satisfying when I finally beat the bitch. Overall, it was a great game. Mindless slaughtering of people in the middle of the streets was just great. So many gibs.

I have to agree with you there. A section of the game spent moving around to get to the guy wouldn’t be remiss either.

In case anyone still cares or whatnot, I actually released a review for prototype.
Give it a read if you are interested. As always the same goes for as back on the GN forums. If there is any problems or grammar issues I will always respond and correct.
Always willing to hear some comments or thoughts as well.
Thanks guys!

Great review as always Max.

Just one point of discussion I’d like to bring up, several times in your review you mention that the story doesn’t do much to make you empathise with Alex. I’ve seen this a lot in almost every review of the game and personally cannot understand this point. As you unveil more and more of the web of intrigue you realise that [COLOR=‘White’]Alex released the entire infection himself for little other reason than to be a prick. I feel that you’re not supposed to empathise with him, because he’s a complete arse.

I didn’t want to reveal too much in the review, so I only tiptoed at those parts. But when playing as a character, naturally you try to juxtapose the main characters personality in the game with your own so that you try to succeed in continuing on for both your sakes. It’s hard to do that based on Alex as a person. Motivation in Prototype seems less derived from empathy for his situation than a violent cathartic romp. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s unusual. Folks trying to empathize with Alex may find it difficult, and may prefer to get lost in the violent ballet of the game without getting too tied up in the personal aspect.

I agree with you here. Especially when he says about having the memories of every person he’s killed.

The game has its good points and bad point:
Positives:
highly addictive game play: the mechanics are very smooth, the story is actually quite original and the “Web of intrigiue” is such a nifty idea
Good combat: The combat is just immense and as you get better weapons its just becomes a slaughter bath
The fact you can ABSORB PEOPLE
replayablility: i have played and completed this game twice now because i found it soo fun
Alex Mercer: he is tbh completly badass
The missions: unlike assassins creed there not that repetative and actually have alot of ways to complete them, which is quite nifty
DROPKICKING A HELICOPTER!!

Bad points:
Scenery: Yeah its a bit bland, but tbh most of the time you dont notice it
Boss battles: OMG I HATE BOSS BATTLES IN AN OPEN WORLD GAME
ARRRRGGHH
Attacks: there are so many attacks that you wont use them all, but tbh its nice to have them there

tbh it was and still is worth every penny i paid for it

The missions don’t really have much variety if you think about it, the combat does. And the huge number of attacks and enemies makes this possible.

The engine is adaptive, it actively adjusts your graphics during times when there is lots of stuff or whether your inside.

Notice how the models looks better when your indoors?

The game is fun, it’s always nice to have a bit of gore and violence on a boring day, it certainly has its flaws but it was worth the $40 for sure.

I think its a fun game and good to get into with a fun story line.

Prototype is a mix of

  • GTA IV
  • Mirrors Edge
  • Assassines Creed
  • Absolute GOOOOOOOOOORRRREEEE AARRRGGGHH…

What is this bumpery?
