Battlefield 3 @ 3840x2160:

“Oh shit!”

Loading screens look a bit ridiculous.

Dirty lens effect broke, haha.

EDIT: Minus ate my screenshots

I must go. My people need me.

Oh fuck

Playing the new Shadow Warrior on Ex mode + insane difficulty - which lets you transfer your skill progression and weapons to a new game, and I decided to buy the “high-strain system” upgrade for the crossbow.

This has become my new favorite weapon.

System Shock!

Got swarmed with mutants as soon as I got to the second floor

Wow, System Shock 1 has a fugly menu. That takes up a huge amount of screen real estate.

It kind of helps. You can get rid of it with a button but the framerate drops from an average 60 to like 20 if you do that for some reason.

At 320x200 the menu probably needed to be huge for the text to be legible. I think at higher resolutions the menu just gets scaled up rather than using higher-res art.
Having the menu take up most of the screen would have helped performance as well - the 3D part of the screen looks like less than half of the total screen area.

EDIT: So this happened in PlanetSide 2 the other night:

Battlefield 4 Beta @ 3840x2160:

Ultra, no AA, 100% render quality - playable (how many places is that guy clipping through himself?):

Ultra, 4xMSAA, 150% render quality - lol:

(tried 200% render quality and the game flipped out - might need more than 4GB of VRAM)

EDIT: Minus ate my screenshots

I found high, 150% render quality, 2x msaa to be a decent sweet spot for me. Could get 30 fps. Decided to drop the render quality to 100% and no aa though for a stable 45 fps though.

You’re already playing at a 4k resolution it seems though, so 150% render quality would be 5760x3240 and 200% would be 7680x4320, on top of the 4x msaa you’re using. That would take a shitload of power to run.

Yeah, the settings used in the latter two screenshots dropped the game to below 10fps and turned my PC into a heater (CPU at 72°C, GPU at 80°C) - not nice when my room temperature is already over 30°C :stuck_out_tongue:

3840x2160, ultra, no AA, 100% render quality gets a bit below 30fps average.

1920x1080 at the same settings (what I actually use) gets ~60fps minimum, maybe ~70 average. 4x deferred MSAA doesn’t seem to have much of a performance hit, strangely - maybe I’m CPU limited at those settings…

One more before something bursts into flames:

Anyone here have Quad SLI Titans? :stuck_out_tongue:
(my lone GTX770 isn’t quite up to running 7680x4320)

I just wish BF4 would actually run for me, it has like a solid 50fps constantly but then out of nowhere it like literally freezes every few seconds almost like its hitting the vid memory cap. I mean it really needs more than 2gb of vram? ;-;

Bring the graph up through the console, it’ll show you if the CPU or GPU usage is going too high, which is probably what is causing those stutters. I get them unless I limit my framerate to 45 or so. It’s a lot better than it was before the few patches though.

Did you try putting it in borderless windowed mode in the options?

That basically eliminated those stutters and made it run better for me.

Yeah I tried that to no avail.

Star Wars: Jedi Knight Dark Forces II

My favorite Dark Forces/JK game

The level design is phenomenal.

Some gore-y aftermath in Duke 3D
