Going from purgatory is nothing. I went from an Intel GMA X900. Wnat to know what that is? It is fucking comparable to an ATI Rage 128. That is fucking before the Radeon series came into being. Half Life 2: avg. 13 FPS. You know NOTHING.
I now have a 4890 OC to 1Ghz and 1045Mhz Memory. Max L4D with 16XMSAA 8xAA 1980x1200 at 70 FPS almost constant. I LOVE THIS CARD.
I used to have an ati rage 128, it was awesome because the newest game at the time was GTA 3 and it worked perfectly. I used to have an intel GMA x300 too, you can make it run HL2 at 100FPS if you have custom drivers and custom game settings.
Macs are always worse.

I dont consider 1680x1050 low.
Nor do I. He has a 5’x5’ screen, though.
At that resolution a 4890 alone is wasted, let alone two of them…

No mystery, I just didn’t care much about the rest of my machine when I built it (mainly because I think the video card and cpu are the coolest parts – don’t ask me why). I have a smilodon case, and like a 1000 watt psu. an asus mobo (although I can’t remember the exact model number).
If you say so, though I know of noone who has built their own computer and can’t remember what they put into it.

Macs are worse than Linux. I’ll take Linux OS over Mac OS any day.
Running latest ubuntu release on a netbook from an SDHC card and it’s not that bad, the only problem is that I get mac performance in games due to wine being laggy.
Have you tried open suse, or xubuntu?
