I didn’t mention anything about lag at all. You mentioned you were using ubuntu, and that is what I use. I was wondering if you had tried xubuntu, or open suse.
I’ve used xubuntu and kubuntu as my main OS, each for at least a month, I also used knoppix and back track (both installed to HDD) so I know a bit about the differences between distros, and my brain hurts every time I have to learn a new console command.

For your purposes, gentoo is probably a crappy choice, but that doesn’t mean it’s a terrible distro…

You’ve got it all wrong, your desktop should be your laptop.
My laptop has the 8400GS Core2Duo 1.83Ghz, and my desktop has a 8800GT Core2Duo 2.88Ghz.

Desktops are better for gaming.
I couldnt build a gaming desktop, even though Trust Me, i know that laptops should only be bought for portability, NOT gaming. Pointless waste of money.
But, you see, I never had any money in the first place. My brother, despite me warning him against it, said that he wanted me to invest into a laptop for high school. I said a desktop would serve me better but NOOO, laptop it is.

I found a Crysis capable gaming computer from Tiger Direct Blog on Youtube for $469.99 that can run Crysis at 44 fps. You could buy that if you wanted to, Russilker.
I know best buy rips off (although this was a really good deal), but my brother has this problem with buying online or from unknown locations.
Like, he would never buy anything used. He went with best buy “for the warranty”. While I would rather ebay a bunch of PC parts and build sumthn good.
