Post the worst game-breaking bugs

i’ve been trying to finish L.A.Noire before Skryim comes out to get all the games i have on my plate out of the way. Once November 11th comes, i’ll be pretty much exclusive to Skyrim for at least a year.

Anyway, after finishing the first Arson Desk case, i ended up getting the worst ending and royally botched the case. Figured i’d just replay the case and finish it properly, i went to the “Cases” menu and replayed it. Without realizing it would FUCK UP MY GAME, the game over-wrote my “Story Mode Save” with a “Replay” file.

Now the only way to advance in the game is to start aaaaaaaaaall the way over from the very first case and work my way back up. Just in case you haven’t played L.A.Noire, each case can take up to an hour to complete and my next step was somewhere around the 15th (or so) case.

it’s mind-boggling that something as simple as a gui glitch could completely break your game progress. Even more that Rockstart hasn’t put any effort into a fix for it.

On that note, what are the worst game-breaking glitches you’ve ever experienced?

-Kawai Tei-

GTA IV: San Andreas mod freezes after the first display of the map and Carl, making it totally unplayable. And I was really looking forward to playing it.

Also in Oblivion the mission to cure vampirism is completely screwy. Your given a second cure for the Vampire king’s wife, but upon delivery the mission gets stuck, she never rises from her bed, and you have to use a cheat to complete the mission. That plus the fact you can’t go out during the day or you will die. This bug totally killed a beautiful game. And to top it off, the key to bring up the console for those cheats bumps heads with the windows IR remote control software (for movies, laptops have them, my desktop doesn’t but it is included in windows 7), so you have to go and turn off that windows feature before you can use even use cheats. I hope there is nothing that messed up in Skyrim.

in black ops, black ops

not to mention fallout and stalker

The first time I played GTA: SA it worked fine. Built a new computer, still worked fine. Now the third computer I have, it won’t let me travel backwards at full speed (whether on foot or in vehicle). It only moves at a foot every two seconds. It’s crazy, hinders mobility, makes it near impossible to back away from pursuers that are surrounding you from the front, or force you into a corner.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 Hate my computer, they run fine for a while and then say DERP and the proceed to crash at every save, load and at random. Plus they corrupt your save file so they lose your progress.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines would crash when you jumped on a boat at the end of the mission. The patch the developer issued was a console command to jump to the next level lol.

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames decided terrain stopped being solid whenever I drove over a certain area of the map and trapped me under the world. Repeatedly.

I have never had a game breaking bug in Stalker. I did play it with the Complete mod though. Just recently in CoP I couldn’t do the Bloodsucker Nest mission because the guy seemed to fall through the ground so I couldn’t talk to him. Not game breaking though.

Far cry 2 all of it.

Map editor was the most fun I had.

Having EA buy your company and make you release what was supposed to be the flagship 3D game for your company way too early… Yes, I’m still ticked that EA bought Origin (Ultima IX looked stunning at the time. Too bad the framerate was about 1… sometimes less…).

Oh, also in Far Cry, where in the middle of a mission, all the NPCs would stop dead, but you could still move (for a short time).

New Vegas was probably the worst I’ve ever seen. They basically released a late Alpha.

Still a great game though.

Stubbs the zombie.

Crysis 2 crashes all the time. It’s supposed to run on 32 bit systems, but apparently somewhere between the release and the last patch the memory usage jumped up to make it impossible to play certain levels/ past a certain time because it uses up all available memory.

One time the game crashed just when the player’s character gets knocked out, almost as if the nanosuit itself crashed.

“hl2.exe has stopped working.” Thankfully, the latest round of updates seems to have fixed it…

Team Fortress 2 from 2009 to present

Battlefield Vietnam, music and voices are messed up on all new versions of Windows ( shit vista) and 7.

HL: Blue Shift - Everytime I start the game - on the tram ride in - the huge door for the tram won’t open (so it can’t proceed).

I’m sure I could use the console to skip ahead somehow, but fuck that.

Well, not that it means anything, but yes, there is a command to skip forward, and it requires little to no effort.

Is there a command to open the door?

I imagine there is, if you’re willing to extract the map from the gcf, decompile it, open it in hammer, and look at how the I/O is set up.
