Portal !

Weird, I think Portal is kinda hard but it’s definitely no THAT hard for me. I luv it.

my brain power is reserved for raising 3 boys… :frowning:

Pro tip: load a previous save and don’t get stuck again.

Seriously, you CAN’T leave Portal unbeaten, it’s against the law!

Some levels I have spent upwards of over a half an hour trying to figure my way out. I dont have the luxury of time or the patience for such an endeavor.

My only other option is to cheat and go look it up on youtube.

I guess u just dont have the right mind for it or something, some of my freinds have the same problem, when i can clearly see the solution.

:s hrug: It is wierd cuz I am a bigger problem solver type person than anyone I know. It was a great asset when I was in tech support, and many folks irl come to me for advise. So why I struggle with portal I dont know. I guess I just find it hard to ‘see’ the puzzle or the solution.

i wanna see ppl smashing their PS3’s because of gamepad controls. fuck yea, PC 4 teh lif3

You might just not be a spacial person. I know a lot of people can have trouble visualizing 3D space in their heads.

For example those dice problems you find in math books where they ask you which side is opposite of another with 3 pictures. I’m really good at them, but some people can’t get that 3 dimensional space in their heads to find the solution. I imagine you would have the same problem with Portal.

That or sometimes good problem solvers can have trouble noticing things when they’re too obvious. If you’re normally good at solving puzzles like this you might just be overthinking them and thus find them more confusing than they actually are.

I am one of those who can’t find the too obvious things in games ;<

Why can’t Valve be more like other game companies and stop making everyone else look bad? I mean, they should just be focusing on improving their games’ graphics, making their guns more realistic, improving their games’ graphics, making their games look more like movies, and improving their games’ graphics instead of working on entirely original mechanics and making games that are just downright fun to play. You know, like every other FPS making company in the world.

you forgot about improving their games’ graphics

Bottom line: Innovation is good.

fun part is that neither of them have been working on improving the game graphics lately.
Remember they have the consoles to cater for. Oh yes I went there again.

I didn’t feel Portal 1 was too difficult. I managed to get through that after a couple days with it.
But the mod Portal: Prelude was really difficult. Oh and those other third-party maps. There was even this map with a rotating room. That one was crazy.

Do you guys have examples of other difficult / down right crazy maps for portal?

And I probably spend a bit too much time in front of the computer.

I’m pretty sure that some of it was mocked scenario/later in the game. It’s not unusual for “leaked” footage to be completely inconsequential to the actual released game.

BY THE WAY… is anyone else pissed that the new Zelda game apparently won’t let you use lefty controls, when Link IS LEFTY?!

Ya know… The cake is actually a cube…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W–lJsklGuc#t=1m12s

Im suprised NO ONE has said anything about the 1998 copyright at the beggining of the video… Which I have no main purpose of it, but, was this gel already made during the time of Portal 1, just not in the test chambers you were sent through, or was this AFTER? And the robots have been building shit on there own, which would mean that Portal MIGHT take place BEFORE the resonance cascade… any other crazy thoughts?

Oh I agree, I’ve always said that the cake never was a lie…
See, companion cube was a mini-fridge keeping the cake fresh, and you killed it, you killed your only friend and your cake, so you couldn’t share it… but that’s alright, because companion cube still loves you…

OooOoh, me likes the crumbed/cracked surface on the ASHPD. But man, that real-time liquid system in the game looks sexy… I have no idea how they were able to program something like that… I mean when you think about all the angles people can have it spray from AND having it react to gravity at the same time…

They’re just big ass particles/models, there’s no fluid simulation in there.

and again people confuse the way liquids are rendered with how they are modelled.

They can use fluid physics modeling while still basically using millions of tiny particles to render the water on screen. The math underneath it defines how it behaves.

But yes it doesn’t make sense to use a perfect mathematical model of fluids in this gameplay mechanic as you are just spraying it onto a surface to be able to cross over so they can cheat a lot.
Also they just paint it with decals. We all know how they made this effect. That is not what is interesting about this.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
