Honestly, I just canāt bring myself to care about having the option to buy purely cosmetic items for a video game. If some idiot wants to buy an item, more power to him. Personally, I just donāt care.
Its certainly not worth complaining about though. These are by no means gameplay enhancing or even valuable items, people should not care.
Itās an optional extra that isnāt forced on the user. It isnāt even that obvious in the main menu.
Clearly people love to buy shit in TF2, and Portal 2 has online co-op, so it makes sense that Valve would take the opportunity and put in a feature that people have been using heavily in their other games.
People need to stop getting mad at Valve for trying to make money. Itās a company. Itās what they do. More than that, Iād argue that they have some of the best DLC possible in the TF2 and Portal 2 stores. Why? For one, itās almost all cosmetic. So some guy has a hat. Are you missing out on any missions or gameplay, like you would be if you didnāt pay for Biowareās DLC, or CoDās map packs? No. And the weapons for TF2 you can find, craft, or trade for, so to use a new weapon you donāt have to shell out a cent. Second, itās easy. Thereās no registering, no downloading or installing, just a few clicks and the stuff is yours. The most youād have to do is add funds to your Steam wallet, which is pretty easy since youāve almost certainly got your card info already stored in Steam.
TL;DR - Valve gots to get dollas, and their way is actually pretty good.
ā54 fucking bucksā? What is āthis fucking thingā to which youāre referring?
Also, I donāt mind extras costing a bit of extra money. More money to Valve = more games. I was saving up my pocket change for Portal 2 and will begin saving up again for HL2:E3 for when that comes out. I donāt really have any extra money for DLC but hey, others will and Iām okay with that.
While I can certainly justify buying a PS3 physical blu-ray copy for 50 euros, I think 25 euros is more than enough for just one game in electronic format, no matter who made it and how good it is.
But small wonder, seeing how wall street trades humongous sums for a piece of paper and a gallon of Brent costs fucking 121 bucks.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valveās Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
