You guys fail to realize the other things involved.
Time it takes to update the engine to todays standards
Time it takes to update their other games (after all, people were bitching for how long to get achievements for HL2 and EP1 and such)
Time spent on class updates on TF2
Time spent on their other undisclosed new IP.
EP3 can’t be a priority when millions of people demand all these things and more from Valve. Valve simply does what the masses ask, and the masses really ask too much.
Well, I think EP3 will run with Source Engine Version 17354.
Why make a new engine from scratch if you have a totally modifiable engine. Just plug in some code aaaaaaand it’s done.

ironicaly the best games are the ones that are developed in shiort period of time, max of 2-3 years. You dont have to worry about the graphics geting old, and the style changing drastically from lelvel to level. Look at mirrors edge (at least 7 y) compered to batman arkham asylum or uncharted 1 and 2(both 2-3).
And you fail at thinking logicaly.
You really think valve has 1(!!!) team working on everything at the same time ? So what, coders making the engine updates, make game levels for icefrogs new game in their spare time ?

And you fail at knowing knowledge. If you read the L4D or TF2 blogs you would know that the teams are constantly switching around and working different projects. Everyone works on everything. Also based on your statement, you contradict yourself. If Valve was as divided up as much as you say, that would encourage longer development times anyway.

Hmm, meybe tahts the reason why they cant finish a 5 h long expansuon in 3 years ;f Every month they spin the “Wheel of fail”, to dicide what game they will work till the next month, swicthing the teams from project to project ;D Guess ep 3 wasnt lucky on teh spin recently.
