Portal 2 Borealis

found out of something there’s a portal 2 achievement called ship overboard u can find Borealis in portal 2 discuss about it! i think this is a hint about episode 3 or half life 3 maybe there’s a Half-life 3 easter egg inside the ship or around it and it looks like its still in Aperture Science

this^

also what did that achievement actually turn out to be??

Watch the video that was linked in the OP’s post if you’ve played past that part, otherwise don’t watch it if you don’t like spoilers.

Valve said by themselves that they aren’t gonna connect the Portal and Half Life storys, so you shouldn’t expect that.

I found a secret way to a shipyard and there is a life ring with “Borealis” written on it.

You found a “life ring”… is that the ring of life?

idiot…

oh, so you mean a lifebuoy!

Why are you guys talking about self preservation bagels?

We aren’t human, we are trolls!

It’s been said again and again. It was an empty port where the Borealis was supposed to be. I.e. It’s missing.

Basically all that the achievement really did was give a nod that yes, this is the same facility where the Borealis was made. Also considering the drydock seen in Portal2 was found in the older historical section of Aperture i’d think its pretty safe to say that it was something that they had been working on for a decent amount of time, prior to the events of HL1 and prior to the construction of GLaDOS. I’d also say, considering the general theme of portals in the entire Half Life / Portal universe, that whatever the Borealis was doing, involved creating some sort of portal. Obviously this would be of interest to the combine and if it could create a large portal, would be logical reason for Cliner to want to use it (give people an edge up on the combine) and for Eli to want to destroy it (not let it fall to the hands of the combine after their only other means of a portal was just destroyed).

In case your wondering, it was just an empty dry dock that was obviously meant for the Borealis, you never actually see the ship itself (seeing as Mossman found it and she obviously was not in the aperture facility itself.

So, Borealis was made and sent off before GLaDOS and the portal gun was made. can it now be completely safe to dismiss theories of either of them showing up in the Borealis? please?

bscly ^

I think that there is the possibility though. If you remember from Episode 2, when you see the Borealis, the boxes that say "Aperture Science’ has the new logo on it if you payed attention to the logos development in Portal 2.

Also, sure the loading dock was in the old part of the facility. That doesn’t mean they didn’t still use it later on when they had the newer parts constructed.

But as Valve stated themselves, the two games take place in the same world, their stories remain separate from one another.

So the Borealis can either travel through time or teleport, or both.

why did aperture build/repair/use the borealis in a drydock ~4000m under sea level ?
was it supposed to teleport to the surface?
well it did, but not intentionally, so we know it was capable of teleporting to surface and
that this capability was intended…

as for the drydock, wasnt it said, that the incident took parts of the drydock away with the borealis.
the drydock in the video looks relatively ok, if you compare how the spheres and catwalks have come down

Well the things that keep the ship standing up straight (can’t remember what they’re called -_-) could’ve been what disappeared along with the Borealis.

The Borealis weren’t there, It was lost, probably through a portal. And then the combine found it with their portal stuff!

Imagine the device that made that portal, that must have been huge!
