Pickup and Throw Combat?

Physics will make for some awesome scenarios. Im hoping to stumble into a room with a couple HECU looking over some documents on top a steel workbench or other heavy-duty table, which they proceed to push over for cover. Using metal would allow for some excellent effects.

Im guessing HECU will be able to take cover behind objects, if not by AI than possibly at least once by script.

Funny, I recall Black Mesa being a predominately wooden facility.

Something like Half-life 2’s “hands” at the beginning of the game would be simple enough. No models required and it wouldn’t be an effective weapon against enimies thus discouraging players to use this as a replacement for the gravity gun right?

Well antlion guards can hurl cars at you, so I wouldn’t put it past them.

IMO the bullsquid could hurl things with the tailswing attack. Maybe agrunts and gargs too, with their arms, of course…

My point was more that you need the tram, and therefore it would break the game :frowning:

oh yes once the pick up and throw was introduced in BM…when you throw something in a scientist then will tell you: stop that, no more or something like that?
In HL is not possible but when you shot a scientist another said “Stop attacking is a friend” not only runs

Translation:

If “pick up and throw” is in fact introduced in Black Mesa, when you throw something at a scientist will they respond and tell you to stop, like friendlies did in Half-Life 2? In Half-Life it was not possible. When you shot a friendly, if there was another friendly near you they would run away. If they were a guard, they’d shoot you.

They will most likely respond if you throw something at them. If they are shot, they will respond similarly to how they did in Half-Life.

I imagine at some point it wasn’t? Must’ve been fun having 2 trams occasionally clipping into each other and crushing stuff in between, from a players’ point of view.

You mean it’ll activate automatically, and you won’t have to run back up to the control room?

Also, will the trams you can choose be different colors, so the player can pick the one they like?

I was asking about the association of physics and cover in non scripted events and wondered if its possible to write an AI routine along the lines of:

HECU takes X damage + HECU is within X feet object + Gordon is X distance away = use object for cover. Capped with an overall percent chance of occurrence, like 50% of the time. The object being something like a large metal table or cabinet.

I already know if it had to be entirely scripted it would not involve real time physics and AI. Maybe its beyond the scope of the mod and not worth the time.
