We updated our throw mechanics and even added the ability to pickup and toss nades…see we do listen.
I hope you still kept the fuse somewhere near 2 seconds. I don’t like that infuriating 5-10 seconds it takes in every other game for grenade to explode.
There’s a big difference between a grenade having a 5 & 10 second timer. The one in Half-Life was 5 seconds by the way.
Since it’s been too long and I can’t remember anything about Half-Life, I can only compare to HL2. I suppose it was 5 seconds in there also. But that’s way too long. My attention span is too short to wait 5 seconds for grenades.
The 10 seconds was merely a bad attempt at humour. I hope no game actually has it that long. Though it sometimes seems like it.
But I remember Raminator saying they made the fuse something like 2.5 seconds. So I am/was really happy hoping I could actually enjoy using grenades in some game.
So I was right and wrong. Correct time, wrong person.
But wiki doesn’t really help me here. That quote is from way back. Almost 2 years ago. Hence why I’m hoping (I can’t really know for sure) it still is that way.
Or are you telling me, that everything in the wiki is up to date and correct?
My mistake, the grenades in HL1 do live for 2.5 seconds.
Well, it’s ought to be.
my bad, i thought you two were disagreeing over how long the fuse time is in BM (as far as we know)
Fuse time is 2.5 seconds.
Picking up the grenade with the +use key will reset the timer to 2.5 seconds under two conditions.
- it was the first time the grenade was picked up
- the timer was less than 2.5 seconds
seems a bit odd to reset the timer
you probably did it because it would be almost impossible to pick up a grenade without it blowing up in your face, but I think that would probably add to the rush
Lose the ‘almost’ and you’re probably correct. Dunno 'bout the rush though.
Sounds good, but if it’s like picking up regular props, how hard can you throw it?
Does the timer of the grenade reset when grabbed in HL2? (With use, not the gravity gun that is.)
I think you can’t pickup grenades in Half-Life 2 then.
You can pick grenades up in HL2, but they removed it from BM a while ago. So it’s more readding the ability to pick them up.
I’m guessing it was in response to playtester annoyance that they couldn’t throw back grenades.
If that’s the case then why did they take it out in the first place? Throwing grenades wasn’t in during the first playtest?
We are silly developers.
I’d just settle with throwing back live grenades, and large chunks of concrete should fall on the turntable.
