But Apple hardware is still overpriced!
I just went down the option list of the Mac Pro and checked all the top options. No idea of everything makes sense. Jeannotvb did say “any Mac setup”, so there you have it; a Mac setup. Now I want to see something similar for PC that costs less.
Oh and 32GB RAM: rendering.
@ Bolteh
Duh, I know that. The point I was trying to make is that the PC will always have a broader assortment and it will be cheaper.
And what about overclocking, does Apple sell computers with motherboards that support high-end memory and processors known for their overclocking capabilities (like the i7 series CPU’s, OCZ memory that has extended voltage protection warranty etc.)
Yes and yes.
I never argued the fact that the hardware costs more. A stock PC of comparable specs between a PC and a Mac, 99% of the time, the Mac will cost more. A custom computer is going to cost the same all around no matter what.
I really don’t think rendering is going to take 32 GB of RAM.
Where? I don’t find any in their configurations (never used their site before so mind telling me where to look)
@ CTID
Oh yes it will.
Still confused why you have a 4Gb Fibre Channel card - I’m an optical engineer and can think of absolutely no reason to have one in a PC?
…Oh. Well that’s a frightening thought.
We run Fibre Channel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibre_Channel into huge data centres for banks etc…
Mac OS didn’t start with X, you know.
You’ve actually implied vice versa a few pages ago.
The Mac Pro is still scheduled for an update, but the iMacs have i5 and i7 processors. Apple doesn’t offer OCZ memory by default, but any type of RAM works with Macs, OCZ as well.
However, Macs don’t have BIOS, so I doubt you’d be able to overclock anyway. But you’re still able to plug the hardware in there if you want.
A render-farm is a huge data centre as well.
Mac Pro’s had an option to plug two turbo-boosting (automaticly overclocking when you need it) Quad Core XEON Nehalems on a single die since last year. Why you need an i7 is beyond me.
Third party apps plus turbo-boost in xeons.
Price for one… they range between £800 - £1,300 here for that Xeon cpu… I could buy 4 i7 systems and build a cluster for that much!
Interesting. Never knew that .

It’s not hardware vs. hardware it’s OS vs. OS…
sorry, the thread started as “PC VS. MAC” and not as “WIN VS. MAC OS” -but ok, sorry then.
Let me clarify; there’s no battle when it comes to which can have better hardware. Despite the title, it was implied Windows PCs Vs. Mac PCs. (Otherwise the whole, “And I’m a Linux.” joke wouldn’t make sense.) If you wish to argue otherwise, it’d be better if you jump of a cliff so someone else won’t have to shove you off later.
Um, doy?
I asked a question. I didn’t imply anything in the question.
I was not talking about the question, I talked about what you were saying before that.
You’re going to have to illuminate me, then, because you replied to my question, not what I was “saying before that”.
yes, yes - well… whatever
