Original xbox port vs pc half life 2

go :freeman:

xbox version is crappy. it looks like you’re playing with the minimum settings.

If I have seen correctly, Half-Life 2 on x-box is running on the Orange Box version of Source Engine. If this is true, I don’t get why the port of a game would be converted to look better while they leave the original made-for PC version to rot in the dust… I’ve heard and e-mailed Gabe Newell about upgrading Half-Life 2 to Orange Box on PC but all he said was “Yes, we’re going to do that sometime, I don’t know when though.”

i play hl2 with garys mod. looks nicer

Well, since the original was made for PCs, I’m gonna go for that. Also because I’ve always been a PC gamer, never console. How are you supposed to play an FPS on those thumb joysticks, come on!

This is a bad thread and you should be ashamed.

harsh

Actually I have been both a PC gamer and a Console gamer for years now and I can definitely say that thumb sticks are just as good as mouse + keyboard.

were talkin about the xbox port of hl2, not the xbox 360 port of the orange box.

As far as comfort goes, to each his own. It is impossible, however, to match the lightning-quick reflexes one can have with a mouse.

All I know is I want HL2 and Ep1 running on OB and achievements for them on Steam! >=[

I could not agree more, you are so right!

My reflexes are so slow it honestly doesn’t matter what controller I use.

I only have it on console because I simply can’t play it on the PC. But to keep people happy, I bought it on the PC as well anyway.

to add to this display of shame: I played the PS3 port of orange box (which isn’t as bad as everyone makes out) through to completion… I’m yet to do that with the version I bought from steam. This is because I’ve traditionally been a console gamer (due to me growing up with rubbish PCs) and feel more comfortable with a controller than with a mouse/keyboard setup… Sure, it’s not as precise but Halflife isn’t twitchy enough for it to really be an issue.

(That said, having seen the precise tracking of the new motion controller, I can see that being just as, if not more precise than using a mouse!)

To make matters worse, I played Halflife 1 on the PS2 more than the PC (not including the opposing force/blueshift spinoffs)… so, yeah.

Sure, they’re inferior to the PC versions, but the console ports are by no means cancerous turds.

Except maybe the Xbox 1 port of HL2. That was a cancerous turd.

What’s the fucking point?

Normally I would defend consoles, saying “they’re awesome, just like the PC!” But this is just stupid. The XBox version has a lower framerate and has no multiplayer or mods.

That’s all I’m going to say on the subject.

I also played the whole Orange Box for PS3 to completion. Then I realized the error of my ways and did the same thing over again on PC. Just wrapped up HL2 and the episodes for the first time on PC actually, but I’ve beaten Portal about 4 times on the PC and three times on the PS3 (just about to go at it again on PC. That’s what you get when you fall in love with a game that you can beat in two hours.)

HL1 I played exclusively PC however.

I bought the original xbox version of Half-Life 2 for when I feel like playing some old-school xbox. It’s really enjoyable game-play wise on the consoles, especially with the vibration, which makes crowbaring shit more fun. I also rented OB for the 360 for this reason, though I own all the games on it for PC.

While a big plastic slab with buttons is an easy and smooth way to play, the immersion really kicks my ass on xbox. It’s ergonomic controller makes for intense feedback and more satisfying action sequences, at least for me.

Though these qualities aren’t worth much when you can’t mod the game itself.

However, I did have The Orange Box as one of my first XBox 360 games (besides Halo 3 and Gears of War), and it was great!

However, TF2 on the 360 is full of lag, isn’t as popular as the PC version, and has no DLC. Luckily, it wasn’t so unbearable that I wasn’t able to enjoy the game.

Then I found out about Black Mesa and upgraded my PC and got The Orange Box for the PC as well as Counterstrike: Source.

I like vibrating controllers too, but I wouldn’t exactly say it was for the “immersion.” The only time a rumble made me immersed was when I jumped a few times while watching one of the many cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid (like when Sniper wolf shot the wall right next to Snake.)

In Half-Life 1 on the PC, the computer monitor was right in my face, since I couldn’t just lay on the couch and play. While playing “On a Rail”, I fucking DUCKED in my chair when I was approaching one of those rail road signs!
Mind you, this is Half-Life 1… on the fucking GoldSrc engine… where everything looked like shit.
Now THAT’S immersion!

This is why the Novint Falcon is useful for single-player Source games.
I should’ve entered that competition on the Steam forums to win one… I would have beaten that employee’s ass.

For me, it has to be on the PC. The free updates and nicer graphics are a winner.

Also, why are we even discussing this?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
