No Spies vs Mercs in Splinter Cell: Conviction

So, a recent post in the Splinter Cell forums, posted by a community developer, said something very interesting about SC:C’s multiplayer modes:

What the hell?! This is a TERRIBLE decision Ubisoft made! First they made Sam Fisher a furrie, now this?!

Oh well, the game looks awesome anyway, but this is still bullshit!

In the words of my Splinter Cell fanboy friend:
“Splinter Cell: Conviction Collectors Edition Xbox 360 Pre Order: CANCELED. Why would they do this!? SvM made Splinter Cell. Co-op did not! Damn it. Damn it.”

Wait wait wait, Sam Fisher is a furry?

Lead Designer: “You are Sam… the ultimate predator”
Then he goes on to compare Sam to a panther… many times, in many interviews.
Yeah, it’s more of an inside joke between me and a friend than an actual attempt at a good joke.

So, yeah. I guess there aren’t allot of Splinter Cell fans here.

Can I hold everything for a sec and question why all the trailers show how Sam can now kill everyone? Wasn’t a massive part of the Splinter Cell games the ability not to kill everyone?

My friend is pissed off at that too, but would of at least tolerated them as a new style of gameplay, so long as the core Splinter Cell pillars remained intact (a good singleplayer game, awesome coop, and most importantly, Spies vs Mercs.)

I still think the game will be great, but I don’t know if it’ll still be Splinter Cell.

I think that it wasn’t going to be a Splinter Cell a long time ago. I’ve yet to see a trailer with a non-lethal takedown. Even so, it will still probably be a good game, just not what we have come to expect of the series.

This is a Half-Life forum after all.

Well, c’mon! We had more pages on the “Halo Reach VGA Trailer” thread! Last time I checked, Halo isn’t exactly everyone’s favorite game on these forums (or even close to it.)

I think they are doing that to appeal to the mainstream crowd, the one that loves big burly men in spacesuits that would replace their penises with shotguns if it was possible.

I think I heard about this game a LONG time go like whenever Double Agent was new. Its finally coming it, it looked cool but yeah I can see why you’re pissed Spies vs. Mercs was fun.

Or because they hoped that they were creating a new style of gameplay? Perhaps?

I have seen gameplay videos of it, and while it looks NOTHING like Splinter Cell, it doesn’t exactly look like Gears of War either. It looks very new, and I kind of like it.

Good point

Well thats the whole idea. If you start a thread about how you are excited for a Halo game, you will be flamed and anti-halo sentiment will be spammed. Splinter Cell is much less flame attracting.

Thats because it was actually good.

These guys seem to get it. Hopefully…

Case and point.

What the fuck, you can’t even hide bodies anymore. The whole fun of Chaos Theory was seeing how many Mexicans you could stuff into a janitor’s closet.

In the VGA thread at least, there are actually intelligent post. I didn’t see much spam in that thread.

Please post your bitching in the following threads:

Well the VGA was also a lot more vague to the point of being meaningless to the actual game, so much speculation resulted. And flaming, naturally.

I didn’t see much flaming.

But let’s get back on topic:
Despite this not being Splinter Cell at all, I still think this game has potential. The new style of story telling looks great. Flashbacks and mission objectives seen in the environment as light. Much better than the 40 minute cutscenes that I will have to endure tomorrow i[/i] And the new Plan/Execute/Vanish gameplay style is very unique, and sure as hell looks fun.
I’ll probably get it, if only because Coop looks fantastic!
