Valve has figured out what most other companies haven’t, yet. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel in order to make an awesome game. That’s not to say they aren’t constantly improving their engine. Not having to start from scratch on an entirely new engine means that they can afford to take the time to improve technologies and add some new ones. Episode 2’s facial animations are still some of the best in the industry, and its cinematic physics still amaze me every time. To my knowledge there’s nothing like the AI directors in L4D1&2 out there. And even if its no Crysis, Source engine games still look great and are still capable of surprising you from time to time. Perhaps most importantly, they spend more of their time working on improving gameplay and story telling methods than making everything look pretty, which is more than most other developers can say.
If that wasn’t enough, because the source engine is older its a lot more friendly to graphics cards, and therefore more accessible to people than say Crysis.
Funny thing about cliffhangers, usually, even if you’ve convinced yourself that after x-amount of time it won’t feel as… important, that’ll change when the resolution to said cliffhanger comes.
In short…
You’ll buy it.
HOWEVER: Should valve decide to scratch EP3 for now, and instead work on L4D The Movie, I would likely go and yell at Gabe, or more precisely, his marketing advisers.
The orange box was so successful that maybe they are going to to release portal 2, episode 3 and maybe counter strike 2 in the same box (mauve), along with hl2, ep1, ep2 and portal, all with an engine upgrade, then making the fans pay for hl2 and ep1 for a third time and portal for a second time
4 years damn it 4 years! and we don’t even have enough concept arts. İ feel like they have done nothing since ep2! it’s not even Half- life 3 it is a f**** episode! Oh my God i am losing my mind!
It’s part of the mating ritual for a Kakapo (a rare flightless bird). There was a show on BBC2 about them not long ago where one tried to mate with one of the presenter’s head (that’s where the footage comes from).
It’s only been 2 years and there is concept art. I mean not a lot but there is. And they’ve been working on other things like the L4D series. You should check yourself into the funny farm :3
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
